Loss Prevention?

I need a link or information on the loss preventions laws/rules/codes/regulations or whatever the LP staff have to follow...

Like they can only physically stop somebody if this and that... or they can only check you if this and that....

Im basically looking for the LPs do's and don'ts...

I need this for an article im writting that relates to law enforcement...

Loss Prevention?
State laws. Go to your state's website and look up the laws for search and seizure. Most all say the person must be outside the door with items they do not have a receipt for. The best loss prevention DO - is for the loss prevention person to walk around and speak to people. Just good morning/afternoon will discourage most shoplifters. They just don't want anyone to notice them; once someone speaks to them, they will leave.
Reply:you can never check anyone. all you can do is ask if they paid for everything.

the reason, is if you stop/check/accuse anyone, and they are innocent, they can sue for defamation of character

so it is the business who says no.
Reply:It depends on the state, in my state you cannot apprehend them until they have exited the store. It has to be clear that they intended not to pay, so even if they have put something in their bag or you see a bulk in there clothes, you can't do anything until they leave the store. You should look at the larceny statues for the laws.
Reply:Every company is different. Per Ohio Law

http://www.omeda.org/fastfacts/1800.htm (slightly outdated but still really good information, A felony is $500 now, not $300)

But other than that it is up to a company to follow all laws.

The company I worked for we were allowed to utilize a "hands on" policy, which meant we were allowed, but discouraged to make contact with the subject at any time after all the conditions were met and we ID'ed ourselves. We could use force if we "fear for the safety of ourselves or others." Some used that as an excuse to handcuff everyone.

most companies have 5 basic rules that slightly vary

1. see subject select merch

2. see them conceal

3. 100% visual contact at all times

4. not pay for the merch

5. leave the store or last possible POS (point of sale)

But like I said, they differ, for example K-mart may require you to exit both doors while macy's only requires you to exit the first set of doors in a vestibule. While Sears may allow you to stop after the last POS has been passed. (I do not know if these are true or not for those stores, they are examples.)

Some also have restrictions on how far you can go to apprehend a subject. Some stores allow you to go as far as "where you can reasonably expect assistance from another associate" and some will not allow you to step off the curb.

I have gotten into a few chases and scuffles.

Prevention of Shark Attacks!?

My friend Dave said if you get attacked by a Shark the best thing to do is Throw a Gas Cylinder in its Mouth and Shoot the Cylinder so it Explodes! What other Preventions can I take?

Prevention of Shark Attacks!?
Sounds like "Dave" is going to be in the next "JAWS"??!!

To answer your question: Bang-stick's work good. If you are stuck without a "weapon", try to "punch" the shark in the nose, and try to poke his eyes out.

To prevent an attack: Don't wear shiny or "flashy" watches or jewelry. Sharks are attracted to "blood" so don't have any major cuts or bleeding from wounds ,(or otherwise). They are slightly sensitive to the color "red", so don't wear all red shorts or wet-suit's. If you spearfish, don't carry your catch on your waist.

And if you are on a sinking vessel, in the rigging/mast, and you only have 1 shot at shooting and hitting a scuba tank, wedged into the mouth of a charging white shark, say a prayer to Rory Sheider and make sure you HIT that TANK! lol
Reply:Don't swim when you're on your period. My friends actually told me to do that, but little did I know, there aren't any sharks in a lake.
Reply:I think your friend Dave watches too much television...but then you already knew that.
Reply:Stop listening to your friend Dave.
Reply:Bang Stick!!!! Its a shotgun cartridge you put at the end of a spear
Reply:PLEASE Do Not kill a shark and even if you wanted to you probably couldn't do it.

1. Do not wear anything shiny in the water (watch, necklace)

2. Never paddle around so much you look like you are drowning. You are just attracting attention (NOT GOOD)

3. Do not paddle out if you have a cut or gash on your skin that could possibly start to bleed. (Wear a really good water proff bandaide if you have to go out)

Believe or not sharks do not want to eat you. They are known to actually bite a human and then leave, they are not interested in you and if you make yourself available then they will bother you. Good luck!

I have a -6 and -5.5 dopter in both eyes. i need to know what power of lense i need for myopia prevention?

i need to noe what power of lenses i need while reading. please help and can someone tell me at what speed does the positive lens method of myopia prevention work. how fast does it work?

I have a -6 and -5.5 dopter in both eyes. i need to know what power of lense i need for myopia prevention?
You need to visit on optometrist or ophthalmologist for an eye examination.

If you are myopic they will reduce the sphyrical value in your prescription according the the reading addition you require e.g +2.00 will give your R -4.00 and L -3.50.

If you wear contact lens they will simply prescribe off the peg readers to wear over your lenses.

I have a project to do for my Psych Class. What's an activity to present to residents on relapse prevention?

I am in a clinical class where I have to present a class, activity or anything on relapse prevention. It is presented to the residents at the mental hospital and can include anything to get the point across. Prefer it to be fun and informative. Thanks

I have a project to do for my Psych Class. What's an activity to present to residents on relapse prevention?
one way is to have the residents create a "coping basket". The residents draw a basket on a piece of paper and write in activities that are fun that they can do. For instance, I might put "going to a movie" in my coping basket or maybe "get a massage". THese are activities that a person can draw from when they are feeling like they may be relapsing, feeling down, depressed, etc

I got DNC after miscarriage after a week my husband and i had sex, to prevent pregnancy i took prevention?

i took morning after pill (femenal pill) i take it 3x a day after sex, but my problem is we had sex everyday and i take the pill continuously 3x a day until now. Is it still safe? prevention wise..i mean?

I got DNC after miscarriage after a week my husband and i had sex, to prevent pregnancy i took prevention?
You are ok but try not to take the pill so often because it has serious side affects.
Reply:Uhhh, pregnancy is really not as big a worry as staph infection. I was forced to "do that" only 3 weeks after giving birth (they tell you to wait 6) and nearly died from staph infection. If I were you I would go on to the doctor to get checked and then I would not have sex until I had time to heal. You are risking putting germs into OPEN WOUNDS in a place I don't think you want them.
Reply:I don't know about all the different morning after pills but I learned one thing. The morning after pill is equivalent to 3 days of birth control pills it is like an overload. You need to stop taking that 3 times a day immediately your body is probably freaking out, use it very rarely. It is still working to not make you pregnant but it is harming your body. Get on the regular pill or use condoms it is just as safe and is less harmful to your body!!!!
Reply:Why don't you use condoms and get on the pill? I don't know if its safe but I doubt it because its a high dosage of the pill and thats a lot to be putting into your body everyday. Those are supposed to be for an oops not everyday.
Reply:yes it is actually bad for you to take it more than once in a given month my doc. wouldn't let me take it more than once a month when I was younger and unmarried. I was also told that it causes scar tissue causing it to be harder to get pregnant later on when you do decide to have children please switch to condoms and Birth control It would be much safer for you. Hope you make a good choice.

How long must you generally wait for before spreading out new seed after putting down crabgrass prevention?

I am not sure really why you must wait, maybe it is something in the crabgrass prevention which may harm the seed?

can you maybe just wait until after a couple of good rains and then safely spread out new seed with starter fertilizer?

Thanks for your answers!

How long must you generally wait for before spreading out new seed after putting down crabgrass prevention?
if, by crabgrass prevention, you mean pre-emergent herbicide, you have to wait because that stuff works by KEEPING SEEDS FROM GERMINATING. Spreading grass seeds down when there is pre-emergent present in the soil is wasting your money. Lots of that seed will be affected.

The longer you wait, the less effective the pre-emergent will be. I recommend 6-8 weeks. I've heard some people recommend as little as 4. You could always try a small spot after X weeks, and if you see mass-germination, then you're good to go!
Reply:Wait at least 4-6 weeks before seeding. You CAN get crabgrass preventer that allows you to seed right away, but it is more expensive. It contains the chemical siduron.

Issues & challenges UN must adres 2 bcum efectiv in its role as an international agent of conflict prevention?

The concept of preventive diplomacy has been expanded to include the creative and innovative use of traditional techniques, predominantly used in the past as processes of peace making. Discuss with reference to instances in which the UN has engaged in preventive measures, the various issues and challenges the UN must address and confront in order to be more effective in its role as an international agent of conflict prevention and management.

Issues %26amp; challenges UN must adres 2 bcum efectiv in its role as an international agent of conflict prevention?
UN still doing a great job for conflict prevention, but i the decitions must be indipendent without forcing of other powerful coutries
Reply:the UN is a good idea.trouble is that they pick a leader that as soon as he gets a suit of clothes he discovers pockets.when he has pockets he wants to fill them with money .Again a good idea corrupted by greed

I've moved from Japan w my dog. Could you please tell me about vaccination, heart worm prevention?

Hello. I've moved from Japan with my dog, and now live in Ohio. Could you please help me out?

The vaccination that my dog has been given in Japan was "Duramune Max 5". I paid about $70 for this vaccination. It was needed once a year. I checked the vaccination name in the internet and found out there is the same one in America too, but how much will it be if my dog get shot by vet in America? Is it also need once a year?

Also, about heart worm medicine. "Milbemycin" is the name of my dog's medicine, but I couldn't find the same one when I searched for it in the internet. Instead, I found a lot of different kinds.....like the one you can buy in the internet(Heartgard plus, Iverhart Plus, Interceptor, Sentinel). Are these good enough for the heart worm prevention? Or should I get the specific medicine from vet? If so, how much will it be? Need it year round? (In Tokyo, it was needed from June through December. same here in America/Ohio?)

Thank you so much for your help

I've moved from Japan w my dog. Could you please tell me about vaccination, heart worm prevention?
Depending on where you live (region) will determine what the best products are to use. If you live in an area where whipworms are a problem I recommend using Sentinel or Interceptor. If your area does not have a problem with whipworms Heartgard is great. When it comes to flea/tick prevention I like Advantage or Advantix. However, if you bathe your dog frequently or groom your dog it is wise to use Frontline because it actually enters the bloodstream and won't wash off whereas the Advantage and Advantix adheres to the hair follicles and can be washed off. If your vet recommends using Revolution (great topical product for both the heartworm and flea prevention) you have to be very consistent with application and make sure that you do it the same day every month. Revolution only last for 30 days so if you forget to give it there is a chance that your animal will get heartworms. When it comes to vaccinations the price will vary with location. The DHLPP-CV is a 6 in 1 vaccination and is your annual vaccine. This covers canine distemper, hepatitis, lepto, parvo, parinfulenza, and corona. Depending on your state your dog will need to be vaccinated for rabies every 1 to 3 years. It is also recommended that if your dog is groomed, boards, or visits parks/pet stores that you vaccinate for canine kennel cough (bordatella). This vaccine can be given by injection or intranasally and is given every 6 months. Some regions require vaccines for Lyme disease and is something that you will need to address with your vet. As far as price - a full canine yearly DHPP-CV ($35), RV ($20), HW test ($30), fecal ($10), bordatella ($20) is about $115, however that varies by location and even from vet to vet. Also, it is safest to give the heartworm prevention year round. Last but not least....NEVER buy animal products via the internet. These products are not sold by licensed veterinarians and are not sold to the retailer from the manufacturer. Call any of the manufacturers of these products and ask if the sell their products to these "wholesalers". Be weary of them!!!! Hope this helps!
Reply:Generally in the US we require an annual vaccination.

And your vet can recommend a good heartworm medication.

You might want to inquire by phone of the Vets in your area (Yellow Pages in Yahoo!) and ask what they charge for each one!

Welcome to the USA!
Reply:the first thing you need to do is find a good vet. dont use petco or petsmart. go to a ligitimate vet and ask the questions. i think your going to find that the vaccination is alot cheaper than in Japan. Try the spca and they will direct you to a good vet and also you can get discounts on pet care through spca. heart worm you will need once a year im sure but i cant give you any prices. a good figure would be about 20 bucks for each one.
Reply:In Ohio, dogs need rabies and distemper shots. If you kennel your dog, your vet will most likely want to give your dog a kennel cough vaccine too.

Heartworm isn't required by law but it is a very good thing to do. Yes, all the heartworm meds you listed are good. I got the Heartgard from my vet and it is a very good thing to use here in Ohio because the climate. It's best here to use it year round and your vet can give you specific instructions especially if your dog spends significant time outdoors.

Also you'll want to get flea and tick protection here in Ohio, especially if you live near a wooded area. Fleas and ticks are HUGE problems in the summer/humid times of year (April through October).
Reply:For heartworm prevention, the most common preventative is HeartGard. HeartGard actually has a guarentee whereby if you dog gets heartworm while on this med, they will pay for any/all costs associated with the disease. There are other meds out there that I'm sure are very effective, but I would only use Heartgard for mine because if they are so sure about the effectiveness of their product that they would make that guarentee, it has to work. As far as the vaccines, I know that in CT there is a state law mandating the Rabies vaccine on all pets. That is a must. The other big vaccine is the distemper vaccine which isn't mandatory, but let me tell you how well worth it is to have this vaccine. I have seen puppies contract distemper because of improper vaccinations and let me tell you, it is very sad. The whole vet bill including vaccines and heartworm meds in CT would probably run you around $200. That is very expensive, I know. But that is for the physical, blood work and all vaccines and heartgard (and CT is the most expensive state in the nation- no different if you are a dog or human). I do hope all this helps, and welcome to the USA. Good Luck!
Reply:You need to get the rabies vaccine yearly...or pay a little extra for a 3-year shot. Parvo, Distemper etc are also a very good idea. The heartworm pills are important, we have lots of mosquitos. The vet suggests a full year of treatment, but usually just summer months are important. I would definately get a vet to give the pills and not buy them online.

For those who have experience in this field...How do you become a certified fire prevention/investigator?

What is better/diffrence? Prevention, Inspector, Investigator, Fire Marshall?

I understand that the fire department can help me out but I am sure there people out there with plenty of experience that can answer my question. Thank you!

For those who have experience in this field...How do you become a certified fire prevention/investigator?
I would say it can vary somewhat from state to state. In my state, there is a like a 72 or 96 hour course (the number keeps going up, it was only 36 when I took it) to become a "fire inspector". However, in order to practice, obviously you need to become affiliated with a department.

Inspectors - Inspect area businesses and industry to insure good fire and safety practices.

Fire Prevention Officers - Are typically inspectors that also often have a focus on public education as a prevention means.

Fire Marshall - This is the guy who is usually in charge of the inspectors for the department. However, many states have "deputy fire marshals" that work under the state fire marshal. The State Fire Marshal it the one who helps set policy and heads fire inspection and prevention activities for the whole state. It's typcially an appointed position.

Fire Investigators - are a totally different breed. These guys are more like specialized forenzic scienctists. It takes many, many hours of traning and working alongside other investigators to excel in this area.

Most colleges, universities, and even many technical schools offer fire science programs to help educate and prepate people for this line of work. Check into your local schools and see what programs are available and see what is required by your state.
Reply:volenteer at your local firestation, they will teach you

I need to know the history, names and important dates, causes of bipolar disorder, and prevention of bipolar disorder.

I need to know the history, names and important dates, causes of bipolar disorder, and prevention of bipolar.?
History: been around for ever

Names: bipolar disorder, bipolar affective disorder, manic depression

Important dates: none

Causes: unknown. Some genetic components identified along with structural and biocehmical changes in the brain

Prevention: none

Treatment: Mood stabilisers - lithium, anticonvulsants, atypical antipsychotics
Reply:Only in the last 20 years has the disorder become somewhat understood and treatable. Many famous people in history had the symptoms

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_peo...

The causes are thought to be genetic and possibly environmental factors working together. It is more or less accepted by doctors (based on what I have read) that there is a genetic predisposition to have bipolar and then environmental factors may help to bring it out of its dormancy in ones late 20's to 30's. (Mine showed itself at age 30, I am now 37)

There is no prevention for this chronic disorder. Once diagnosed, it is a lifetime condition. The good news is with lithium, or other mood stabilizers, the symptoms can be greatly reduced or even supressed altogether enabling the person with bipolar to live a normal, fruitful life.

I get incapacitating migraines (throwing up for hours, unbearable pain, passing out, etc) are there prevention

medications out there? I have a very important job, where I cannot afford to get sick often and yesterday I had the worst migraine I've EVER had, it was horrible! I have since made an appointment with a neurologist. Is there any hope for me? Is there prevention medication? I took IMITREX once and it made me soooo sick and made my migraine so much worse. What do you think?

I get incapacitating migraines (throwing up for hours, unbearable pain, passing out, etc) are there prevention
migraines can sometimes be triggered by a food, keep a diary of when you have the migraine, what you were doing before it's onset and what you had to eat. Try to identify any "triggers" then in future avoid the trigger. This is not always the case, but if you keep this record and take it with you when you see the neurologist, they may be able to identify triggers that you have missed.

I sympathise, good luck
Reply:Been there.....first I was prescribed Imitex (10+ years ago), it worked a little but caused stomach upset. Then I was prescribed Relpax, which worked better w/ no stomach or other side effects. Last year when the migraines started again (stress, alergy and ocular/vision problems caused my frequent migraines) the Relpax did not work at all, had MRI and CAT scan, nothing was wrong neurologically so I was prescribed Topamax as preventative medication and Zomig for the actual migraine. Also have better corrective lenses as my glasses were actually too strong. Talk to your regular dr. before going the neurologist.
Reply:yes there are preventatives. i have been on some for the better part of 9 years. made life more bearable. i was miserable and with 2 year old (at the time) twins ,being down for days with migraine was NOT an option. i would talk to your dr about them. also imitrex did not work for me but there are many others out there. if the first one didnt work, try another.

Does anyone have information on if NICU should be allowed to deflect attention from prevention?

The question relates to the cost of NICU care and whether more money should be spent on prevention instead. The question was alluded to in an article in the encyclopedia of childbearing.

Does anyone have information on if NICU should be allowed to deflect attention from prevention?
Once the baby is in the NICU problems are already there, that's why they are in the NICU. My son was born almost 3 months early and spent 10 weeks at Children's Hospital in Seattle (One of the top ones in the nation for research). He spent his first 5 weeks in NICU and 5 weeks in a regular room. His total hospital bill was $249,000. Well worth it to have a healthy 3 year-old now.

*FRAUD WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW"

WHAT IS GOING ON! ITS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE FEBRUARY!

Can someone help me figure out why my IP address is logged for fraud prevention?!?
This is most probably because your ISP. (ppl who give you inet) use transparent or standard proxies. This means that loads of people in your area seem to have the same IP address for this site. To bypass this try searching for free Proxy's on google and try one. You may also want to search for the instruction on how to change your defaullt proxy server.

Hope this helps.

Which are the different ways to identify & work with highrisk groups for AIDS prevention?

It is difficult for Government agencies to implement highrisk interventions for AIDS prevention

Which are the different ways to identify %26amp; work with highrisk groups for AIDS prevention?
Education...start with kids early. The family must be involved. Take the mystery away from sex and be open and honest about how this terrible disease is spread. Kids start having sex earlier than parents want to admit, and they have to face that fact. So, the parents must be educated, as well.

Free condoms should be offered to teens, if anyone is sexually active, they should be taught the importance of having physicals every year, and being checked for the virus. The importance of abstinence until they really know their partner should also be reinforced. But in reality, we must realize that probably won't happen.

I feel education is our number one intervention and should be started as early as children are able to understand.

This is a really tough thing to do and there are lots of courses and books. (I found 250 thousand references on the web so only put a sample on here.)

I read a really good general book which might give you ideas about the way of thinking behind what you are looking to do - it was called "how to win friends and influence people". It is a really easy to read book and I am sure that you would be able to apply it to your situation as well as probably your life in general. (The book is widely available for less than £10 and you might even be able to borrow it from your local library.)

Do you really mean health prevention or do you mean health problem (illness) prevention?

(Please clarify in further information on the question.)

The community I live in is Kenmore Washington. But I'll take anyones help if I can get it.

Can I get some help coming up with 10 survey questions about local crime prevention efforts?
1. I think that City Hall has hired the wrong person, if you need to be getting help at this stage, and you turn to Yahoo! Answers.

2. Your questions should focus on local initiatives and issues, and they are apparent from a quick look through the City of Kenmore Police Department's webpages. You need to ask about people's views on these matters (have things improved? do you feel safer? are you involved in any initiatives? etc.).

Do you always lock your doors on your car and at home, while you are home, when you go to bed at night, when you leave each day?

I hav to write an essay on VEHICULAR POLLUTION-CAUSES AND PREVENTION inn 2000 words. pls help me.pls help me.?
The cause is the internal combustion engine within most vehicles.

A typical vehicle engine burns gasoline, and emits carbon dioxide, water, oxides of nitrogen (because the air going into the engine contains nitrogen). That's the ideal case. In less-than-ideal cases, soot and unburned hydrocarbons are also emitted.

Prevention:

1. Fewer vehicles.

2. Zero-emission vehicles, that run on electricity. You'd have to add a sentence or two about generating electricity from a "clean renewable" source such as wind power, hydroelectric dams, tidal power, wave motion power, solar energy, and geothermal.

3. "Cleaner burning" engines that run on hydrogen gas instead of gasoline. There are also other fuels that burn cleaner than gasoline, such as methane ("natural gas").

4. "Lower fuel" vehicles, such as the gas-electric hybrid cars.

5. Finally, getting a tune-up and a check-up on your catalytic converter will make sure that your gas-burning vehicle is emitting less soot and less unburned hydrocarbons.

Good luck with your essay.

Study Skills, Essay Writing.

Essays remain an important method of assessment and enable examiners to discriminate between candidates, while also enabling candidates to display the skills and abilities which they possess.

As the essay paper has evolved it has become more demanding with much more emphasis on posing questions which allow candidates to display the higher order skills. Professor Roy Wilkinson of Sheffield University has identified a pyramid of skills which A level examinations try to test.

Where can i find help to develop a poster depicting drug prevention to be used by 2nd grade students?

my daughter was asked to create a poster depicting drug prevention and i am interested in knowing what to put on it without being very graphic

Where can i find help to develop a poster depicting drug prevention to be used by 2nd grade students?
geez...2nd grade? they just barely know how to read and write in that grade...is drug use really a problem?
Reply:Rather than focusing on negative aspects of drug use, focus on positive aspects of staying drug free.
Reply:2nd grade? what has the world come to! How old are you in 2nd grade like 8 or something? Jeez, show a picture like on the simpsons of the hippies trying to eat a baby sandwich because they are so stoned..God, what could you show that wouldn't make them cry...
Reply:2nd graders genrally dont know about drugs

unless they have teenage siblings and find them lying around

i'd go to like a parenting website or something
Reply:You may want to have a look at the poster at:

http://www.glpics.com/mackay/CVcomics/00...

It can give you some ideas ....
Reply:It's never too early so rock on,You could try a local rehab for ideas, talk to the staff. It's gonna be hard to put it into simple terms.

you could use the answer from "way far out" it's a sound idea, you want to be able to get the message to their mush minds. My idea would be make a tree from the bottom up showing an individual that has two paths to follow...(a choice) one path shows happiness,a fruitful life etc.and what he should be...the other a path to hardship and consequence(jail, broken family, dead) and what the person couldve been,at least something like that, maybe?Hope this helps.
Reply:I just had my 3rd graders make up a slogan and illustrate it

Proud to be drug free

Happy to be drug free

You and me can be drug free

Phrases like that

They illustrated things that they could do instead of drugs
Reply:Have your daughter showing the benefits of saying

'no' to drugs. Show pictures of children running to

stay healthy, doing well in school, going to church if

you are faith-based, being happy and having fun

with friends. The slogan could read, " friends help

friends stay drug free." of "A drug free life is a happy

life". Hope this helps. By the way, I started talking to

my daughter about drugs when she was in 1st grade.

I just kept it simple and told her to never take medicine

unless mommy or daddy gave it to her.
Reply:You can write "Sock it to Drugs", and decorate different socks, made out of construction paper, one sock colorful and bright and the matching sock with how to say no to drugs, ex: just say no, walk away, tell them you have other things to do, etc... Poster will

be grade level appropriate and colorful and get the message across.

Do you think that the Senate will pass the Hate Crimes Prevention Act?

The House of Representatives passed it today...It's full title is the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

Crimes commited out of the motive of pure hatred should be heavily penalized...

Do you think that the Senate will pass the Hate Crimes Prevention Act?
I agree with you, Dear One. Too many people are getting away with murder (literally) and not getting penalized for it; but we have to make certain that we're getting the right people for the right crimes.

The Senate will pass it, but I do hope that the Shrub will sign it into Law and not have the poor sense to Veto it. Even he has to see that hatred is just going to make things worse in this country.

The times for lynchings and such should have been far far behind us.

Blessings, Dearest.
Reply:I just wish those loud people would turn down that idiot rap crap a little. Or turn it off when they go inside a store. They only do it to signify how lame they are.
Reply:Bush will likely veto it. The Republicans seem to be in favour of hate crimes.
Reply:I think it will pass, it's a very dangerous element of people who kill with only hate as a motive. I think the law is necessary.
Reply:This sort of law is actually dangerous. If overzealous prosecutors use the law to the full, any crime committed by a memeber of one group against another might be presented to a jury as a hate crime. There is a reason we have judges and juries. To penalize appropriately. This is just feel good legislation to appease certain groups of people and has no real affect on the frequency or severety of hate crimes. All violent crime is hate crime and should be punished accordingly.
Reply:Let's hope so. If it does not pass, then it would be a very bad reflection on the country, to make it glaringly apparent that they have no concern about hatred. Then again, nothing surprises me, considering how there is still so much blatant racism, or the murders at Virginia Tech.
Reply:"Crimes commited out of the motive of pure hatred should be heavily penalized..."

Does this mean that crimes commited because of mall ace or compassion be treated differently? Do you really think someone who killed your mother should get less punishment than if they killed you?

No, this is a very bad law on the federal level. This is already addressed by most states. The federal law is not needed.
Reply:I sincerely hope they pass it.
Reply:Also known as the Matthew Shepard act, it is a moot point since the House doesn't have enough votes to override the promised veto from Bush.

Even if a Hate Crime law exists, it does not mean that they are used by prosecutors.

What is antivirus? how they corrupt files? what can be the prevention to stop them to spread in our home comp?

What is antivirus? how they corrupt files? what can be the prevention to stop them to spread in our home comp?
The answers you got are pretty good, but they failed to mention that an antivirus is a program that gets rid of viruses; they aren't bad for your computer (as long as you have just one). uber geek gave some good resources for information about viruses.

To protect your computer against viruses (including worms and trojans) you can use AntiVir (free, free-av.com). I use Norton on my main computer, but it isn’t free. Other free options include AVG and Avast. You should also occasionally scan your computer with Trend Micro HouseCall (free online virus scanner, housecall.trendmicro.com), just to be safe. Don’t install more than one antivirus program on your computer--it can cause serious problems--however you can use an online virus scanner while an antivirus program is installed on your computer.

You should also use Ad-Aware (free, lavasoft.com) to protect your computer from spyware.
Reply:viruses and worms and trojans all work in different ways the links should help you understand wht you talk about if if you need help with this on your own computer then chill you need two things on your computer a anti virus and a anti spyware below is a link to google packs were you can download that just remove every thing except for Ad-Aware SE Personal and Norton Antivirus 2005 Special Edition download and install them and run a check every week this will prevent problems :)
Reply:Viruses are programs that are wrote to attack the code on your computer and or applications. Zone Alarm Security Suite is the best above all the rest.....

What can PREVENT a hangover even after overindulging. Note. I´m seeking a guaranteed prevention not a remedy.

Have you heard of eating prickly pears or drinking its juice as a hangover prevention, if so can you explain that as a guaranteed prevention, and when to consume that product.

What can PREVENT a hangover even after overindulging. Note. I´m seeking a guaranteed prevention not a remedy.
Well, as I'm sure you know, there is no such thing as a guarantee in health care, every"body" reacts differently to everything, while result might be similar, they are never exactly the same. That being said, what the main cause of hangover is is dehydration caused by the alcohol. So alternating a glass of water then a drink and so on will help prevent that. Also taking a couple of Milk Thistle Seed capsules when you get home will help as well. Milk Thistle works directly on the liver, helping to tone it %26amp; help it do its job in filtering poisons from our body. Since alcohol is metabolized through the liver, Milk Thistle will move it along nicely. I've never heard of prickly pears as a hangover preventor, but they taste lovely so I'd say go for it, certainly wouldn't hurt anything! Good luck!
Reply:No way to prevent a hangover if overindulging.
Reply:the best way to prevent hangovers is stop drinking !

what's the point anyhow ? self-destruction ? making life shorter ?
Reply:The best prevention I know of is also the cheapest. Learn to nurse your drinks and cut down on the quantity you consume. If you abuse your body, you pay the price, its as simple as that.
Reply:You can't prevent a hangover. It is caused by the dehydration in the brain, and the best remedy I have tried was sipping water or pedialyte before bed to re-hydrate your body. Drink slowly, though, because drinking it too fast may cause vomiting.
Reply:Hangover prevention must take place prior to and during an alcoholic endeavor!

Here is my foolproof strategy when I drink.

The day of outing you should eat easy to digest yet filling meals. Ie. baked potato, pasta, rice, bread. This will be easy on your liver and stomach but will make nice cushion for the alcohol.

Next, and most important, as you've heard a trillion times... drink lots of water. And, I mean lots. If you aren't watching calories, drink a few gatorades. Then your organs and veins will be properly hydrated and ready to go!

What you drink is perhaps the most important thing! I stick to a very highly distilled vodka because it is much easier for the liver to metabolize thus not making you sick. My drink of choice is Kettle One with water tall glass on ice with a few olives. This will be easier for your body to metabolize than some sugar laden fru-fru drink and will also provide you with much needed water!

I don't recommed pills before or after the outing. Advil, tylenol, etc are only one more foreign and difficult thing for your liver to process.

Day after... lots of water and the cure all for EVERYTHING THAT AILS YOU.... Hot %26amp; Sour Soup from the local chinese joint.

CHEERS!
Reply:I agree with the Milk Thistle suggestion, and I would add a multivitamin at the same time. Have those beforehand, drink a lot of water and eat a lot of fat and oil, and you should be much better off the next day.

However, it's also true that there's nothing to completely prevent hangovers if you get really bombed, especially if you do it a lot. Your body will pay the price, even if it's more of a gradual thing.
Reply:From my understanding, when you pass out after a night of drinking that's exactly what you do, pass out. Your body isn't getting any real rest, it more like you're unconscious. So what i do to prevent hangovers is drink a few glasses of water during my night of drinking and when i get home i take a pain reliever/sleeping aid like advil P.M. and drink a huge glass of water. This way you fall asleep instead of being unconscious. I wake up feeling great no matter how much i drank.
Reply:Excess alcohol causes deficiencies. I don't care if its prickly pear or cranberry juice, your replacement of vital B vitamins can have a dramatic affect on your recovery and a dramatic affect on your craving of alcohol as well.

They have to be whole food B2, B6, and B12...Not synthetic, thus the saying about whole fruit juice (like prickly pear) helping... Is for a reason. It is providing natural vitamin/minerals that your body can recognize and your cells can utilize. Centrum just clogs public porta potties.

The prevention is not to mix alcohol. People don't realize that mixing a beer with a glass of wine can cause a hangover. You drink beer, you stick with beer... You drink wine, you stick with wine.

For example, if you were drinking wine and then you went for a cocktail, then that'll really mess you up the next day.

Stay away from high sugar drinks. Like white wine, corn syrup based beers, Quervo Gold is 90% cain sugar (drink Agave based tequila which is expensive but no hangover).

Clean alcohols that are high end do not necessarily cause hangovers.

Prevention is just simply taking care of yourself and being aware of the kind of alcohol you prefer. If you prefer cheap sugar stuff, then I'd be thinking you are suspect of alcoholism because you want to get your sugar intake up to feel right again. Alcoholics like to self medicate like this because they feel low in energy from a spiral of vitamin/mineral deficiencies all the time.
Reply:There is one thing to protect you from getting drunk and to save you from followed hangover but if I tell you I have to kill you. It is a very special preparation made and used by spooks in various countries. So if you can't join Mosad or CIA

try to find a friend who works for them.
Reply:I have never herd of that as a prevention, the only sure fire prevention for a hangover is to drink heaps of water before you go to bed. A hangover is simply being very Dehydrated so drink 1 cup of water for every 1 standard drink you have and you will be fine. if you forget to drink water fix yourself up in the morning by cracking open another can, always makes me feel better if i don't get round to the water.

For what reasons we should not teach HIV/AIDS and AIDS prevention education in primary school ?

Debating the ill effects of AIDS prevention education in primary school, despite the fact AIDS education is of paramount importance toall concerned.Could this type of education affect children psychologically , emotionally spiritually?

For what reasons we should not teach HIV/AIDS and AIDS prevention education in primary school ?
ya,it affects children and some children will obviously take another meaning of that ........

and it is the parents responsibility.
Reply:It is the parents responsibility.
Reply:sorry, I can't think of one.

There should be no reason why we should not teach AIDS prevention in schools.

Zip. Nada.
Reply:Because HIV-AIDS is primarilly a sexually transmitted disease, and you'd have to teach the kids about the birds and the bees before you could discuss the transmission of the disease. Many or most parents want to be the ones to introduce the topic of sex to their kids, especially the first discussions, and they may feel grade school is too early. This type of discussion could frighten them- but a little fear goes a long way sometimes if it makes you cautious and thoughtful, because if you get HIV you can't undo it.

Unsolved myths

The Venus Butterfly

The Venus Butterfly is hinted at as not being intercourse but can supposedly, when practiced, cause hour long orgasms, hundreds of orgasms and multiple contractions in both women and in men, among many other things. Is this myth just an old urban legend, or does it really exist?

"What is the Venus Butterfly?" The venus butterfly is a form of manual stimulation where the hands are used to stimulate the woman's anus, clitoris, and G-spot all at the same time.

If I treat my dog every month for heart worm prevention, is that preventing her from everything?

If I have my St. Bernard treated for heart worm prevention every month at our vet's office, does that protect her from all worms...or ONLY heartworms?

And if she does have any worms now (not heartworms, one of the other kind), and we go ahead and start her on the heartworm, will that kill any that she may have now?

If I treat my dog every month for heart worm prevention, is that preventing her from everything?
Lots of conflicting answers here, how do you know who's right? Ask your vet!
Reply:I think heartworm treatment only treats heartworms. Other worms live in the digestive tract and should be treated separately.
Reply:Heartworm prevention only prevents heartworms. You can get de-wormer from your vet, for the other types of parasites that your pup may have.
Reply:Heartworm meds are for heartworms - period. The other wormer medication is cheap, so you can even get it at the pet store and skip the vet fee. Just be careful to give your dog the correct quantity.
Reply:Generally heartworm prevention prevents MOST internal parasites. You can check the back of the box to find out for sure. They usually list what it prevents.

However, it does not de-worm if there are worms present. In that case you will have to get de-wormer (which does not prevent anything).
Reply:Unfortunately, Heartworm preventative is only for heartworms. It prevents a worm developing after a mosquito bite.

Any other type of worm, they would use medication to kill. Like tape worm etc that can be found in the stool.

If you are concerned that your dog might have a worm, I would take her to the vet right away.

In their yearly exam, they are tested for worms.
Reply:Most heartworm preventives are also designed to help eliminate/prevent infestations of other types of worms. Hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms are all protected against by one or more of the various brands of heartworm preventive.
Reply:no it only protects against heartworm. and no it won't kill any worms she has theres another medicine for that its called a deworming shot or pill or paste for that
Reply:It depends on what heartworm prevention medicine you have your dog on. I used to use Revolution on my old pekingese and when I got my boston terrier they wanted to put her on front line and heartguard.so i asked the difference. They said revolution dont prevent against all worms but it had flea control and heartworm in one. Heartgaurd prevents against all worms. So Now i used heartgaurd and frontline for flea and tick protection. They a little more expensive but worth it. Most vets will also cover any cost if they know you use heartguard regularly. If your dog would get heartworms they would pay for the treatment. The treatment is expensive too. I would check with the vet if they do pay if you have proof their on the prevention. Mine does but I dont know about all vets.

My boston when she was just got she had worms they dewormed her and still put her on the heartgaurd/front line protection. She is fine. Matter of fact in had to go back in 3 weeks for booster shots and got dewormed again. Now she is cleared up and worm free and still on her month meds. I mark it in a calender and when i give it to her i mark it then count ahead 30 days and mark the next month saying heartworm med due. I keep up with it like clockwork.

Just call your vet and ask about your med and see if it covers all. All I can tell you is what I know from what my dogs been on. I would do what I have mine on because all worms are covered. Good Luck.
Reply:If you go to 1800petmeds.com look at the diffrent meds for heartworms. They do prevernt/treat most worms.
Reply:NO its not... you need to get her shots also... most worms in dogs are gone after they are puppies, you can pick up the stuff you need from a feed store... and no it wont kill heart worms its a serious thing if you suspect you need to immediately get her to a vet, they can block an artery and cause a heart attack then death.
Reply:heart worm prevention only prevents heart worm

take a stool sample from the dog

and have the vet check it for roundworms -

that can be corrected with a de-wormer taken orally.

I am researching to start a child and community fire prevention program for my fire department - need info?

We are a volunteer rural fire and rescue department with limited funding and I need ideas or information I can use to begin a fire prevention program.

I am researching to start a child and community fire prevention program for my fire department - need info?
It's not as hard as you'd think.

Start with basics.

Kids love "listening" to a firefighter. Depending on the taget age group, you may want to cover different subjects.

Smaller children need to learn about not playing with matches and fire. "Stop-drop-and-roll", stay low in fire and smoke, and not to be afraid of firefighters. I've had alot of positive feedback from day cares about brining in a firefighter with all of his equipment and "dressing" for a fire in front of them. They can see the air tank, the mask, the helment, and the rest of the turn-out gear before the firefighter puts it on. If you think about it, a firefighter in full turn-out with his mask and air-pack can be alittle intimidating for a pre-schooler. They need to learn not to be afraid of firefighters.

Older children need constant reinforcement about the dangers of playing with fire. Discuss the importance of having smoke detectors in the home and practicing a fire escape plan. Know 2 ways out of every room. Know where to meet outside if you and your family have to evacuate your home due to fire. There are plenty of downloadable materials and ideas available from the NFPA web site.

http://www.nfpa.org

http://www.nfpa.org/categoryList.asp?cat...

Older kids (high school) are old enough to learn about basic rescue and fire extinguishers. Use of a fire blanket, etc. Talk about the fire-triangle (heat-oxygen-fuel) and how fire extingiushers work to extinguish fire. A CO2 fire extinguisher is a great demo tool. Go over the P.A.S.S. acronym (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep) rule about use of a fire extinguisher. Never fight a fire with a portable device unless it is small and you can fight the fire with your back to the exit.

All of these basic principles do not need a large budget.

You'll be surprised how receptive the kids are, even at the high school level so long as you keep it interesting.

As community knowledge of your program grows, you can host pecial events at fairs and parades and ask for donations to help support the program. Funds can be used to purchase activity guides, smoke detectors, etc. Consider "pairing" up with other rural departments to host a smoke trailer event. Contact fire safety companies, you'd be surprised how many would be willing to dontate detectors and extinguishers in exchange for a little publicity.

Good luck!
Reply:Check with your local fire department. They have programs and information on fire prevention for you. They can probably hep you out with rescue also. I know alot of the times the larger fire departments will go into the schools and talk to the younger children (kindergarten thru fifth grade) about fire, and what you should do if you should be involved in one, or if someone is sick how to call for help. Another idea is your local red cross, they also may have information for you.
Reply:We sent down some firetrucks from Canada to N.Y. at 9/11, so it's possible you can get free information and literature from the Ontario Fire Marshals Office.

Here is another 4.8 million web sites:

Reply:contact another fire department, check with them and see what they can help you with...
Reply:Contact VFIS ( Volunteer Fireman's Insurance Services). They provide more than just insurance needs. vfis.com.

Look under education and training.

firepreventionteams.us/tools

You can also contact your local fireman's association if you have one.

Look up on the web under fire prevention materials, there you can find companies that sell the different materials.

Don't forget about your fire trucks, if you have nothing else go to schools, and cub scouts, girls scouts, etc. Show them you trucks, and talk to them about fire safety.

Having a meeting place, how to dial 9-1-1, etc.

At my firehouse we do lots of fire prevention, and we have one the lowest rates of fires, especially those caused by recklessness.

One volunteer firefighter to another, good luck and thanks for your service.

Should US Government make a strong effort to apply secondary prevention efforts in the case of abuse?

Should the United States make a strong effort to apply secondary prevention efforts in the case of abuse? Should, for example, teenage mothers be tracked, monitored, and required to attend parenting classes?

Should US Government make a strong effort to apply secondary prevention efforts in the case of abuse?
NO.

This should be the responsability of the local community.

Having the govenment attempt to micro manage is impossible. It would have to continue in it's cookie cutter approach. Personal attention is not possible when there are thousands in need of intervention. In the local area there may be less than 100. The information should not be kept private, and it should not affect a persons right to live like anyone else. This public knowledge is to protect a victim and not stigmatize. Community intervention should not focus on punishment, but rather education.

Normally a mother even in distress doesn't really want to harm her child. If that is the case, then give what ever support is needed so that mother will accept the education.

A correct analysis is necessary to treat the cause and eliminate problem.
Reply:EVERYONE should be required to attend parenting classes. And WELL before the age where they might give Birth.

And I see no harm in doing what you suggest IN ADDITION.

This is 2007.

Abuse needs to STOP.

I've seen this done before, however it was hard to follow because the narration was in German...

Wouldn't concentration on self-awareness and self-esteem as prevention be more effective than......?

......all the time, money, and energy spent on the effects of lack of self-awareness and low self-esteem? Effects like domestic violence, divorce, motherhood making some women poor. I can clearly see that many of the feminists on this forum lack self-awareness and don't really have much self-esteem. It only gets worse out there in non-intellectual forums, like life. I'm asking whether there should be more focus on building self-awareness and self-esteem as prevention, rather than pounding false self esteem in after the effects of a lack are felt and not promoting self awareness, which seems to be the norm today.

Wouldn't concentration on self-awareness and self-esteem as prevention be more effective than......?
Good idea. You can lead the way.
Reply:There should be as much concentration on self-awareness and self-esteem as prevention. Though some feminists will not agrree with you, but sadly that is the norm. When will this world be cured?
Reply:I think you're on the right track, but a lot of the woman who you see as having low self-esteem aren't getting the prevention from the start. Of course it would be easier to immediately set women up to be strong before it becomes a problem, but that's not what is happening in many cases, so how can you blame them? Women from a family where there is a matriarch and a patriarch aren't going to need this, but in most homes, the male is dominant. The schools are not encouraging the females to be powerful and the media certainly is not portraying the independent woman. Looks, looks, looks and if you don't have them or aren't sweet or vivacious, what kind of woman are you? Prevention only works completely if everyone is on board!
Reply:I would think there was more than enough swaggering exhibitionism and extravagant self-aggrandisement coming out of the opposite sex on this section, to fill a hot-air balloon. Some deep self-analysis and ordinary self-examination wouldn't come amiss in them?
Reply:Their movement is based around blaming men for everything, makes them feel better.. temporarily.
Reply:Good question. I commend you. Have a star.

I think that is a great idea, and it should be so.
Reply:What you are suggesting, if I understand correctly, is that we need to focus young women on their development of self-awareness and self-esteem, so that they don't find themselves in abusive situations or ones that will lead them to welfare and other social assistance programs...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a parents' job? Parenting, from my standpoint, isn't just birthing, feeding and housing...it is developing the character of the child from an early age. Instilling in them the notion of right and wrong, and filling them with self-confidence so that they go out in the world as productive and positive and CONTRIBUTING human beings. If society is going to spend its time on this area, perhaps it should be on mandatory parenting classes...so the child gets a good start at life.

A second income is a great thing...but if it comes at the cost of a child's self esteem and learning important life lessons, then I don't think it is the responsibility of 'society' to make up where the parents failed. I DO believe in social programs, but I don't believe in making up for failed parenting...the country just can't afford it!
Reply:Considering the fact that I got this sort of training throughout compulsory school and college, yes, I'd say it's effective, to a point.

However, it won't work well without co-operation from groups outside the education system, like the legislature, the media, and even the family unit. *That* is why there's so much emphasis on studying the lack and how to fix it.

Also, Yahoo!Answers isn't an especially intellecual forum, so if you were lumping this site in with college, consciousness-raising groups, and esoteric discussions, I'll have to disagree.
Reply:What about the women who actually HAD self-esteem, until the person that abused them over time, took it away?

Having self-esteem is great but it's not enough to keep some women from becoming victims of domestic violence. There are MANY other factors that come into play when a woman decides to stay with an abusive partner.

How do I access a folder blocked by data execution prevention?

I have a folder that is being blocked out by Data Execution Prevention on XP, it is also blocking access to limewire. I want to completely remove the DEP and regain access to the folder. DEP is already completely disabled. When I try to open the folder it flashes that DEP box and then goes to a serious error has occured in windows explorer, then the screen goes blank and refreshes. It is also blocking access to explorer as well.

How do I access a folder blocked by data execution prevention?
download a live Linux distribution like DamnSmallLinux (small and quick) or Mepis (full cd but it is loaded), burn them on cd (they are downloaded as a bootable images), and boot the system from the cd (put live Linux cd inside of course :) . After it boots you'll be able to browse and copy the data to usb stick or drive. Since Linux doesn't execute malicious programs written for the windows you should be able to access the infected data without activating it and triggering hardware DEP . Make sure that you scan/clean it before using on windows machine.

teenage mothers neglect, they're young and still want to have fun..

...

secondary, tirtiary, when it all comes down to it you'll only help a couple more people than u would have otherwise, and you'll harm more because you'd put those families on welfare because they don't have the time to work, go to parenting classes and raise their kid...

and then people would assume the problem was taken care of, and people like my mom would never get caught, she wasn'y on drugs, she wasn't young, she didn't even get beat during her childhood (all her siblings did tho and they all admitted they had a problem with discipling their kids) and she wasn't poor, she just didn't seem like the type, so later when it all came out all the neighborhood kids wanted to know everything about what she'd do, and they believed me, so I told them, and my sister started wanting attention so she changed the stories, and none of the adults believed us, or ME, or MY stories even tho I obsessed over making everything as accurate as you can remember something you want badly to forget...

but abuse is horrible, I guess if there was a way to prevent it without other kids getting neglected it would be good,,, you can tell, once you've been through it, for a certain while afterwards till you manage to forget everything, who's gone through it before, and who is, you can sense it, and not just that, you have a sixth sense which tells you when someone's like the abuser you know so well, you know everyone's personality by the tiniest indications of your abuser's or your own, if there was a way to just confront those people you overhear at the mall who you know go through it, and see if they wanted out, then you could act on it and save so many people, but some people love the person who treats them like that, and when it's not horrible, it's better to just let them be...

Why does a breast cancer occur ?is there any prevention to avoid breast cancer?
There is no sure-fire way to prevent it. There are many possible factors involved with cancer: Family history, the environment, whether you've smoked. If you take care of yourself, eat a balanced diet (Including a lot of fiber, which has been shown to be helpful), and see a doctor for regular check-ups, the odds will be in your favor. And even if you do get cancer, you'll catch it while it's still relatively easy to cure.

I hope this helps!

Reply:Along the same line as Suzzan Somers book "Ageless" is the book "What your doctor may not tell you about breast cancer". I have read pioneer women's accounts of breast cancer treatment and they were not exposed to the pollutants that we have today, but they did have hormones. I think that is the link.
Reply:Causes of this cancers are many.

It can be avoided, by regular self exams and regular X' Rays. Healthy living diet and exercises that keep the immune system in high gear.

The surgery is the only cure, and safest and easiest and the surest cure, if done on time before it spreads, this is why the regular X' Rays are required/recommended.

You should pick up information at any Doctor's office on breast cancer. They should have the booklet on the subject in your language of choice.

Why do some parents focus more on discipline then prevention?

This is something I just might not ever understand. You see parents on here all the time and in 'real' life who have troubled kids. They are throwing fits, they are cranky, and all of the family is just tired of the behavior.

The parents just want to know what they should do when the problem occurs. They don't want to change their own behavior or modify anything during their day. In other words they don't want to prevent the issues occurring.

I don't understand. The first question I ask myself when my son acts up is WHY is he acting up. Of course there are times that are just unexplainable but most of the time I can point my finger on it. "Oh, he's misbehaving because it's 11:00 and he is hungry. We should've waited until after lunch and his nap before going out..." Not as an excuse but a reminder not to do it again.

Am I the only one who thinks the way I am reflects how my children behave?

If you are one who doesn't believe in prevention--why?

Thanks!

Why do some parents focus more on discipline then prevention?
We stopped asking ourselves these questions when we became a society that thought it was ok to go shopping all day, when we became a society that believed it was ok to let the TV be the babysitter or worse yet the parent. We became this way when we were too busy following the American Dream that we did not realize we already had it. If you are a parent that cares more about the rat race of life than you do the quality of life then you are more likely to concentrate on the discipline then the solution to the real problem. Once parents find themselves for what they are suppose to be and not what they want to be, then and only then Will they reflect on what is causing the behavior problems with their kids, until then they can only focus on the behavior problem and not the solution.
Reply:You're right but sometimes parents won't know what's up with the kids until after they do stuff... that's where the discipline comes in. Prevention steps are to talk to the kids afterwards and let them know what's wrong with what they did.
Reply:A lot of times, the reason for misguided/misbehaved children is because parents DO NOT know how to be parents. Just because you have a child, does not make you an instant parent of the year. Sometimes we get our parenting skills from our parents (how they raise us) or the opposite if they were horrible parents, but there is a fine line between being your child's buddy, provider/care-taker, disciplinarian. You need to know that you must always be in control of your child, at least until they can sustain themselves, emotionally %26amp; financially - meaning they are grown %26amp; out on their own. You can fun around and play with you kids but if they don't take you seriously then you're up $*** creek without...well you know.
Reply:If it were only that easy to just look at your child and tell him what he has done wrong and that will correct the problem.

It does not work like at most of the time...

These parents may have tryed all they can and come here to find help..

Even the best of parents can have bad kids. Even the parents that do all they can for their children can have bad kids..
Reply:No you are not the only one who knows that the way you are reflects how your children behave. (Not that that makes perfect sense but we know what you mean.)

Your holier-than-thou attitude kind of stinks, though. Parenting is a learning process and there is no need to be so judgmental. Just because people present questions in a way that you might not does not mean that they do not understand what you describe. That said, there is a 100% chance that you make parenting mistakes as well, because everyone does. Please climb down off of your high horse and join us. The air is much better down here in reality.
Reply:I watch a show on the BBC called "Little Angels" (I suppose it's similar to "Super Nanny"). In nearly every episode, the psychologist concentrates first and foremost on the parent(s) and their action, reaction or inaction toward their child's behavior. Generally, parents only react to the situation - usually much too late.

When multitasking became the order of the day (sometime around the 1980s I guess) we assumed we could apply the same principle to parenting. Parents truly underestimate how much influence the small things have on a child's behavior. Every time we as parents fail to pay attention to the "little" things it adds up, culminating in an undesirable - yet totally preventable - event.

I see it all the time: tired, stressed out kids who are hauled all over town late at night, parents who don't know how to say "no" to one hundred different after school activities, snacks passing for meals and a general lack of "down time" for the whole family.

Excellent question - here's your star.
Reply:They do it because it is easier in the short term. Changing oneself is difficult and takes insight and commitment.

I can say this, because I have been through it with my 3 kids. I started off thinking I would just tell them what to do and they would do it. Then, when they had their own ideas, I was taken aback. I felt like they were always springing things on me, and that no matter how carefully I planned ahead, things never went according to plan.

I finally realized that I needed to not stress so much over the little things, and put more emphasis on the important things, and to model good behavior for my kids. It is amazing how they pick up all your bad habits and show you how you come across!

I agree with the posters above who said that parenting is learned from the way you were raised. It is just hard to unlearn old habits and develop new ones.

I sure with they had Supernanny on TV when mine were small!
Reply:I think it's easy for parents to put the blame on someone or something else than it is to actually take responsibility for the problem. I have a relative who skips school, doesn't do her homework, back talks, and does whatever she wants to. The parent in this situation always tried to give the child whatever she wanted her whole life, and didn't set up any boundaries or concrete rules. Now that the child is older and is doing all this bad behavior, the parent is always blaming other people.
Reply:Well first, human's are curious creatures, prevention is futile. I do suppose you've been told not to do something in some aspect in your life as a child and did so anyway, correct?

And besides, no pain no gain, so unless they see the effects personally on otehr people, or experience it, they won't really know anything about life.

Have you tried your child's interests? for example music, or games. Try playing with him/ her or comment or do the same thing he's doing, it gives him/her a sense of understanding or peace, if you know what I mean. Communication is a huge part of good discipline, which is very true, and to communicate successfully with your child, you have to be in sync with him/her.

My parents does this to me, they play the games I play, listen to music I listen, take interest in the things I like, like anime, robots, novels. Although I know it's all in vain, atleast they tried, and there you go, I communicate with them openly.

When you comment on your child's interest, do not be critical on it, it will immediately tear his/her self esteem. I experienced it once, my relative asked what I wanted to be when I grow up. I said to be a scientist, and they said, there's no money in that and that's a boring job. Since then I took no interest in science anymore.

Ask simple questions like who sang that? how does this work? you know, those kinds of questions.

Do this frequently and in no time, I bet the child will open up to you as to what is bothering him or her.

Take notice, don't ask what's the problem, let the child be comfortable enough to open up.

Hope that helps!
