he is on proheart for 6 months now, i just found another heartworm prevention thing which is cheaper and does the same job. will it affect my dog in anyway if i change prevention tablets?
Should i keep my dog on the same heartworm prevention?
It is important that your pet gets a good prevention with the correct dose for his size. There are many products you can choose from. I use a great product called Nuheart on my two dogs and they can be found on the net at www.nuheart.com
Not only is it very good but it is also very cost effective. make sure you tell them what kind of dog you have and its weight.
All the best
Reply:If money is an issue, and your sure they will both effect him/her the same, I would go for the cheaper. I persoannly use Heartgaurd, but depending on where you get it, that can be a bit pricy. Expecally with multiple dogs/cats in the house.
Reply:Nope. Shouldn't hurt at all :)
Reply:try asking your vet. if your getting it from your vet then it should be fine. i switched to a cheaper one from HeartGuard, but i figure its ok it my vet is selling it.
Reply:you should ask your vet first....
Reply:Most heart worm medications work for heart worm. However not all are equal for other parasites. I adopted a puppy who was on heartguard plus and was heart worm negative but whip worm positive..........solution was to change to interceptor. Make sure your dog is covered for all common parasites; worms.
Reply:Why aren't you asking this of your vet instead of unqualified strangers on the internet? Pick up the stinking phone and call!
Reply:proheart was recalled in the usa due to a number of deaths in dogs that were on it. my advice, have your dog retested to make sure is heartworm negative then switch to interceptor or sentinel if you can. those two products are much better than heartgard imo and offer more intestinal parasite protection than heartgard.
