Computer problem concerning Data Execution Prevention?

My Microsoft programs will close within a few seconds of opening them. It has something to do with the Data Execution Prevention. I cant view any of my word documents, excel documents or pictures for more than a few seconds. Can this thing be turned off? DEP relates that it is for the protection of my documents. What's up?

Computer problem concerning Data Execution Prevention?
DEP is designed to provide protection from buffer overrun exploits. To change its settings, right-click My Computer and open properties. On the Advanced tab click the Performance Settings button. There is a DEP tab where you can change its settings. The default should be to protect Windows services only. I'd do a virus scan and a Windows update just to be sure your system is ok. Hope this helps!
