Flea prevention called Pro Maris, has anyone heard of it?

My vet told me about this new product called Pro Maris and it's supposed to be so much better than advantage and frontline but I've never heard of the product before. If you've heard of it or know of a website that has it listed please let me know. I don't want to buy something for my kitties that won't work or might harm them.

Thank you

ProMeris. It's the newest veterinary spot-on. My practice carries it, but hasn't sold any that I know of - we're wary of new products!

A friend of mine works for the Cats Protection League and they used this stuff frequently, but have stopped because they didn't find it very effective. This is the only report on it I've heard.

I don't know why a new spot-on was even brough out, because there isn't really a gap in the market - Frontline etc have everything covered. It's just that people tend to not use this stuff properly - they either drop it on their animal's fur (it MUST go on the skin) or they don't treat their environment, which is also a must.

If your cat is under 8 weeks old, you can only use Frontline spray. If he's older than 8 weeks, Frontline spot-on is quite safe.

Reply:Hi Erika...here's Fort Dodge's website for the ProMeris product:

The first website talks about the product and how it works. The active ingredient which elminates flea infestation is called metaflumizone.

Excerpt taken from the ProMeris website:

ProMeris for cats is the only product available from a veterinarian that contains the active ingredient metaflumizone, a new compound proven to control fleas. Metaflumizone has never before been used to control fleas and research shows they are readily susceptible. Its new mode of action attacks fleas’ nervous system by blocking voltage dependent sodium channels, which results in paralysis and death of the flea.
