Fire Prevention?

My husband is in his early 40’s, educated and successful. However, lately he has been forgetting to turn off the stove, oven and toaster oven, etc when he’s finished using them. We don’t have children, but we do have pets and I worry one day he will leave something on and start a house fire. He asked me to help him remember to turn these appliances off, but what if I am not home? How do I help him remember these things??

It's tough. I know I find our Iron on from time to time and it's scary to think of what could have happened.





Here's a simple idea that could help. Try hanging signs by your door(s) with a reminder to check the ovens, etc. before leaving the house.

Reply:See if he can get in the habit of setting some type of timer that makes an awful noise when it goes off. Often the oven itself will have one. The notes are a good idea too.
Reply:Someone started a public safety campaign somewhere (can't remember where) to help cut down on kitchen fires. Whenever you leave the kitchen with some appliance on, take something with you. They used wooden spoons, but you could use anything: an oven mitt, some other cooking utensil. That way all he has to do is look at the item in his hand and remember 'OH Yeah, I had something on in the kitchen.'
