Osteoperosis prevention, whats the best course of action?

My friend has been taking tablets for quite a while, she also has bone density tests etc. Recently she had a dental implant and she' had no end of problems. She read an article that said an ingredient in her tablet had a side effect that can cause a jaw condition, whereby the bone decreases. Does anyone know anything about this ingredient (Its phos or fos something)and what is a reliable and safe product for her to take?

Osteoperosis prevention, whats the best course of action?
Calcium, Vitamin D, exercise, bone density tests are steps to help prevent osteoperosis.....to learn more go to this website.

Reply:MILK and lots of it!
Reply:I think that you should get lots of calcium through milk, cheese and other dairy products.
Reply:Surf the internet there is a mountain of information regarding supplements for this condition - I take calcium with magnesium to help with absorbtion.
Reply:Has your friend tried Calcichew-D 3
Reply:exercise is always good for increase bone strength. Many ppl as they get older get increasingly sedentary
Reply:I have slightly reduced bone density - other than the obvious answer of speak to the Dr, I was advised to eat three portions of dairy/calcium containing products anything from milk, cheese, yogurt, even tofu is good! Also you need Vitamin D to absorb the calcium - we can absorb this through the sun so time outside helps. Also very important is weight bearing exercise - anything that pounds through the body ie walking, aerobics running etc.

Cause,prevention,control,sympt... of dengue?

Dengue fever is a disease caused by a virus that is transmitted by mosquitos. It is an acute illness of sudden onset that usually follows a benign course with headache, fever, prostration, severe joint and muscle pain, swollen glands (lymphadenopathy) and rash. The presence (the "dengue triad") of fever, rash, and headache (and other pains) is particularly characteristic of dengue.

Dengue (pronounced DENG-gay) is now reaching the peak of a roughly five-year cycle. It strikes people with low levels of immunity. An attack of dengue produces immunity for a year or more. Once this outbreak ebbs, more people will be resistant to the viral disease and the cycle will begin again.

Dengue goes by other names including breakbone or dandy fever. Victims of dengue often have contortions due to the intense joint and muscle pain. Hence, the name "breakbone fever." Slaves in the West Indies who contracted dengue were said to have "dandy fever" because of their postures and gait.

Treatment

The mainstay of treatment is supportive therapy. The patient is encouraged to keep up oral intake, especially of oral fluids. If the patient is unable to maintain oral intake, supplementation with intravenous fluids may be necessary to prevent dehydration and significant hemoconcentration. A platelet transfusion is rarely indicated if the platelet level drops significantly or if there is significant bleeding.

Cause,prevention,control,sympt... of dengue?
mosquitoes,

symptoms - like malaria

prevention - not sure there is prevention, it is a swampy, tropical disease. I guess making sure you put insect repellant on!
Reply:Cause: specific type of mosquito that carries the virus

Prevention: cleaning up all areas of standing water, where mosquitoes can breed. Also, using repellants on the body if necessary (mostly its the daytime biting mosquitoes that carry the disease)

Symptoms: headache, severe joint aches, fever, sometimes a rash.

Flea prevention called Pro Maris, has anyone heard of it?

My vet told me about this new product called Pro Maris and it's supposed to be so much better than advantage and frontline but I've never heard of the product before. If you've heard of it or know of a website that has it listed please let me know. I don't want to buy something for my kitties that won't work or might harm them.

Thank you

Flea prevention called Pro Maris, has anyone heard of it?
ProMeris. It's the newest veterinary spot-on. My practice carries it, but hasn't sold any that I know of - we're wary of new products!

A friend of mine works for the Cats Protection League and they used this stuff frequently, but have stopped because they didn't find it very effective. This is the only report on it I've heard.

I don't know why a new spot-on was even brough out, because there isn't really a gap in the market - Frontline etc have everything covered. It's just that people tend to not use this stuff properly - they either drop it on their animal's fur (it MUST go on the skin) or they don't treat their environment, which is also a must.

If your cat is under 8 weeks old, you can only use Frontline spray. If he's older than 8 weeks, Frontline spot-on is quite safe.

Reply:Hi Erika...here's Fort Dodge's website for the ProMeris product:

http://www.promeris.com/

http://www.fortdodge.eu/promeris.asp

The first website talks about the product and how it works. The active ingredient which elminates flea infestation is called metaflumizone.

Excerpt taken from the ProMeris website:

ProMeris for cats is the only product available from a veterinarian that contains the active ingredient metaflumizone, a new compound proven to control fleas. Metaflumizone has never before been used to control fleas and research shows they are readily susceptible. Its new mode of action attacks fleas’ nervous system by blocking voltage dependent sodium channels, which results in paralysis and death of the flea.

Columbine prevention?

does anyone have on opinion on whether or not they think columbine could have been prevented, i'm doing a paper and would like imput, thanks

Columbine prevention?
you know with things like that i don't think it could have been prevented, because probably no one thought at that time that anything like that could or would ever happen, so measures weren't taken because they didn't think it was plausible.
Reply:Sure if the parents were more concern about their kids instead of their careers or hurting their feelings.

You a long way from a nice kid to build bombs in your bedroom.

If they had a good relationship with their kids they could have come to them when they were being bullied instead of building up the anger to the point they went on killing spree.

That is where you start.

Than people around them that would have notice and talk to them about their problems. Or the Christians should have minster to them and show they there is a better way than hate.

With that we would have never heard of columbine.

Gout prevention?

After just leaving the hospital Monday with my father who just had his second operation due to gout, i've learned more about gout than i ever thought possible. First and foremost, gout prevention occurs by avoiding foods that create an over abundance of Uric acid in the body. The problem seems to occur with gout in that your body naturally produces Uric acid, but the problem occurs with the excess that the body can't rid itself of. I'm not sure what your diet is, but if you do a search, you'll find what foods are in your diet, and that simply avoiding them can hep.

The long term damage of gout is what strikes me the most. In october, he had the bone in his big toe removed in the hopes of reattaching either a piece of his hip bone, or a cadaver bone. The problem is that after 30 years of Uric acid buildup, there was no bone strong enough to reattach it to. The good news is at 64, he's not going to run any more marathons, and at this point it's about simple mobility. He has developed tophaseus deposits in his elbows (the most recent operation was to remove some of this and restore some mobility in his arms). The uric acid being heavier than blood, seeks the lowest point (normally the ankles, and other joints).

He is also on medication, but you should consult your doctor to discuss medical treatments available. I hope this helps.

Freckle prevention?

i have fair skin and everytime i go out in the sun i greak out in freckles, is any way to get a real tan without getting the freckles?or a way to stop freckle outbreaks all together?

Freckle prevention?
super duper sun screen!
Reply:You can't make the freckles diappear, but if your in the sun, keep on re-applying sunscreen, and also stay under shade. If you want a tan, use some bronzing spray you can get at Wal-Mart, or Target.

Cold prevention?

I've got exams for the next three weeks and my entire family has come down with a cold. I know there's a chance I could have it already, but if not, what can I do to stop catching it ?!

Thanks.

Cold prevention?
First of all, don't freak out about it. When I was going gcses last year, my dad got a cold, so I panicked, got paranoid, and now I can't get over my fears about getting ill. But yeah, wash your hands, take some vitamin c, and just be carefull about what they touch, then you touch. Good luck with your exams!
Reply:I've heard that if you drink lots of tea.... but I don't like tea so I'm screwed.
Reply:drink a berrocca every morning-vitamin b and c
Reply:Wash your hands! A lot. Believe it or not, that's the best way to not get ANY viruses or bacterial infections. After that, keep hydrated with water and juices. Try to sleep enough. Good luck with exams, and I hope everyone at your house feels better soon!
Reply:Best way is to eat ya vitamins or take supplements with vitamin E, mixed carotenoid which is a safe form of Vitamin A so you wont overdose, complete vitamin B and etc. Those vitamin helps build up a strong immune system so it helps prevent gettin the cold. =) Prevention is always better.
Reply:drink warm water, take citrus fruits( but for some people it may provoke cold ),avoid exposing to dust, keep yourself away from the susceptible individual.

Hangover prevention?

how do you NOT get a hangover..

((besides not drinking a lot or not drinking at all))

i take 2 or 3 ibrofuben and a couple tums before i go to bed and drink some water..but it doesn't seem to help..

any help?

Hangover prevention?
tomato juice
Reply:Water helps, but *time* is best--don't go to sleep drunk. Wait 'til you've sobered up some.
Reply:Water. Lots of it. And then some more.
Reply:The general rule is to eat and drinking. It causes faster metabolism of the alcohol when it's consumed with food rather than by itself.

Also, the time it takes to burn off one shot is an hour, depending on gender, weight, and so on of course.
Reply:i started drinking vodka and lemonade when i heard thet the darker the drink, the worse the hangover, and it's right.

I dont really have hangovers any more, not when im just drinking vodka %26amp; Lemonade.

It tastes really nice too.
Reply:After extensive research on the field I have found a combination of the following works:

Before you drink take two Tylenol with a full glass of water (8oz or more) and two more before you pass out with a full glass of water (again 8oz or more).

If you can avoid the sugary drinks (Pina Coladas, Margaritas, full calorie soda based drinks, etc)- usually the culprit of a hangover is the body craving more sugar.

When you come to a conscious state the next day, slowly drink a sports drink with electrolytes to replace the ones you lost; also a cup of coffee doesn't hurt with the above mentioned Tylenol.

I have found that there really isn't a food combo that is going to make you feel better other than take the taste of the hair of the dog that bit you out of your mouth and tummy- but pancakes sure don't hurt. Bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel has helped in the past as well as chicken soup (but that requires standing upright to cook it).
Reply:Alcohol in large doses is a poison.

Thinking you can poison yourself without some consequence is just plain silly.

Try drinking enough to feel rosy, but not so much, so quickly that you overwhelm your body's ability to flush it out of your system.

If drinking to excess is your sport then chalk up the horrendous next day as the price you pay.

If you are paying it too often, and you are failing to show up for class or work, then take yourself to AA, cause you have a problem you aren't facing.

My father was a bartender, he saw people try method after method, fad after fad, drinking this, or that, eating first, or the hair of the dog, the simple biological fact remains that alcohol is a poison, too much will make you ill. Trying to stop the dehydration that it causes will help the dehydration, but in the end you will still have the results of what is essentially poisoning yourself.

That's why people die from it.
Reply:You're supposed to intersperse drinking water between drinks, which doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Whatever you do, don't drink sweet drinks, they are the worst hangover makers. Eat a baked potato before you go drinking, it helps to absorb the alcohol, and have breakfast out before you head home, with lots of coffee. That's why so many after-hours restaurants do such good business on the weekends; people are leveling out their drinking, so they don't go home stone dead drunk. Also don't drink heavy liquor: vodka, gin, bourbon, etc; drink light alcohol: beer, wine. And also take extra B vitamins at the end of the evening before retiring, to replenish the B vitamin that drinking sucks out of your system.
Reply:any hot soup
Reply:Drink a soft drink between each alcoholic drink and have a decent light meal before you go out.
Reply:Your body might not be able to handle your intake of alcohol. I would try to hold back. I'm not trying to scare you. But, you can get alcohol poisoning. Be careful.
Reply:Well Avoiding a hangover is simple , just remain drunk,

Ok joking aside, try drinking quite a lot of water, I always leave a two Liter bottle at my bedside and drink during the night, and have something to eat before going to bed, and try sleeping a couple of extra hours, so your body can get rid of the alcohol in your blood stream, but remember you get hungover cause you become dehydrated so drinking alot of water helps.

HEARTWORM PREVENTION. where can i get the cheapest meds for two dogs over 60 lbs?

you need to go to your vet anyhow to have the dog tested first for heartworms.

if your dog has heartworms and you give them the medicine, it will kill them.

and since your at your vet, buy the meds from them as well.

dont purchase from Petmeds.

Petmeds buys overstock or outdated medicines from vets, that is the only way they can purchase them.

you have to be a veterinarian to purchase these meds from the supplier.

HEARTWORM PREVENTION. where can i get the cheapest meds for two dogs over 60 lbs?
http://factipedia.com/pets has a link to a place where you can buy pet medications for prices well below most veterinarians. Report It

Reply:check online, you can order and get it pretty cheap from different sites.
Reply:I buy from PetMeds for my two Irish Setters (64 %26amp; 70 lbs.)
Reply:ask your vet.
Reply:ivermectin. get it at a farm/ranch supply place. you can get a 2 year supply for about 10 bucks. it's for horses and cows, so you have to be careful when you measure it. you'll need a syringe.
Reply:Online pharmacies may provide slightly cheaper prices for HW protection for you pets but let me tell you what you are NOT getting by ordering from them and use Heartgard as an example. When you buy Heartgard from a licensed veterinarian, you are also getting a guarantee from the company that produces Heartgard, Merial. Their guarantee would pay for treatment if your dogs became infected with heartworms, roundworms etc. while on Heartgard. When you buy from an online pharmacy, Merial will not honor that guarantee.

Another point to consider, you do not know the origin of your Heartworm prevention products when you order online. Veterinarians receive their supply directly from the manufacturer while online pharmacies can get their products from a middle man.

Some online companies may charge shipping for their product so when you add that in to the total the price may be equal to what you would pay from the vet.

Vet offices also offer other incentives such as mail in rebates etc.

If you order you product online, a notice will be sent to your veterinarian to confirm that your pets have been tested for heartworm within the past year. If they haven't, then your vet will reject the request.

You are more than welcome to consider online pharmacies, I just wanted to give you some additional information. Happy hunting.
Reply:It's going to depend on where you live.I live in a smaller more rural area, and Vet prices are low compared to other places.I can get my heartworm meds from the vet for about a dollar LESS than any online place I have found.I pay 32 dollars for 6 months of Interceptor plus. That's less than pet meds or any other place once shipping is figured in.

Lice prevention?

Please help my daughter has brought home her third note this year about lice being in the school. I so do not want to have to deal with it. Is there anything you can do to prevent a child from getting lice in the forst place. Thank you

Lice prevention?
Make sure she does not share anything with her friends like brushes, hats or scarves. Anything that could come in contact with someone else head. The school should be taking most of the preventative measures. The key is to keep her from sharing those types of items
Reply:We never had lice when we were kids and my hair dresser told me it was because my mom always rolled our hair with dippity do. She said, lice do not like chemicals on the hair. They LOVE clean hair. Her kids brought it home from school and her husband got it, they all slept in the same bed the night they brought it home, she never got it. She used gel and hairspray. I would put some type of chemical product in their hair every day.
Reply:Nix (permethrin 1%) is a cream rinse that has residual effect for 14 days. It is approved (in the US) for prevention of lice infestation. It is available without a prescription.

Also, since Vaseline is used to treat lice (in the eyebrows) I expect the hair gel idea would work, too.
Reply:Tea Tree can help repel lice because it makes the child 'invisible' to them, where they don't think the child is human so therefore stay away from them. You can find Tea Tree and other essential oils at your homeopath or health food store. You can also search eBay or your online Yellow Pages for 'essential oils.'

Stay away from chemical head lice treatments. No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison. Every pesticide preparation has the potential to do serious damage depending on the individual.

Read the articles at the following site and if she does catch them, try to find a natural remedy containing Neem oil as this renders the lice unable to breed therefore make it impossible for them to build up a resistance.

Good luck.
Reply:it has been shown conclusively, though not widely published that the poison in all the approved over the counter anti lice potions can cause blood and bone marrow disorders - i would never ever expose my children to this, please don't expose yours.

any potent essential oil apply regularly will do just as much to deter the living lice from taking shelter in your child's hair. however they may still get lice so you must KILL the lice and just as importantly remove the nits.

killing lice is easy. removing nits that they have bonded to the hair is more difficult.

however here is the super brew free of charge.

i have lived in the tropics for years, i am a long hair as are my children and my wife and many of my friends have the lice best friend .... dreadlocks.

no problem

take natural oil soap (bronners tea tree/lavender etc)and mix two thirds to one with castor oil

stir firmly until like unto whipped cream

set aside (this stuff coats the lice and opens their oil layer to invasion as well as suffocates them and makes the hair to slippery for them to hold)

in a pot combine water, a fat handful of organic cigarette tobacco(poison, poison, poison), a good bit of black pepper(irritant, poison), some pinches of Cayenne pepper(same as black), several mashed cloves of garlic(poison), crushed papaya seeds half cup or so or papaya enzyme - little(the enzyme is strong and can soften the protein glue on the nits -- as well as the hair if you put in too much). now cook the tea gently until the herbs have released then add the papaya toward the end - you don't want to cook that enzyme too much or it weakens.

now you let the tea cool until touchable and stir in the whipped castor oil soap mix then while warm this is massaged into the scalp all over the head, entirely coating the hair. then one plastic bag to seal in all that goodness for ... well you really want those bugs gone to as long as the kids can take it. then rinse it all out with warm water.

bye bye bugs and bye bye to your next generations.

that was easy and short of drinking the stuff -- which you could do to get rid of gut parasites -- nontoxic for the kids!!!!

also my friend with waist length dreads found me in the forest once and complained of the uku as we call them and i was not sure what to do but i comforted him saying something would come up to help. miraculously i looked in that moment under a nearby bush and saw a nearly full bottle of 151 rum that someone had left, lost, or stashed there. we found a plastic shopping bag in the same bush put on his head as he lay on his side and i then poured the rum in the bag and massaged his scalp and dreads well. he rest there for about 15 minutes until the rum started to go to his head and then we swished it around one last time and took it off. the bag was full of dead lice and nits and his dreads were not. lice finished.

they are not hard to kill. getting the protein to solve that hold on the nits is the big one and the industrial strength chemicals fail at that anyway -- that is why they give you that little comb - which the kids hate as much as the lice.

just don't use the industrial chemicals - please.

it is only because of a ppm calculation that the FDA approves those remedies --NOT BECAUSE THE POISON IN THEM IS SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO BE AROUND!!!!!!!!!! DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!!!

i know of one woman that finally realized every time she applied that stuff to her five year old he had

a leukemia relapse starting with lumps at the base of his head -- she had been using since he was two and was in an out of cancer treatment centers for almost three years by then. she stopped the lice poison, the relapses never came back!!!!!!!

imagine her HORROR.

love and blessings to you and your family

please pass this on

Chlamydia: Prevention . Can Chlamydia be prevented?

Prevention Of Chlamydia

http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/chlamyd...

* Use condoms

* Stop having multiple partners

* Get regular screening done for chlamydia and other STDs. Consult your doctor about frequency of the screening test.

* Women should stop douching because it kills good bacteria.

http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/chlamyd...

How Not To Get Chlamydia?

Prevention is better than cure. In case of STDs, this proverb is very appropriate. A STD is easy to treat in the beginning and very difficult at the later stage. STDs cause a lot of mental and social distress. Chlamydia is one of the common sexually transmitted diseases. Find out how to prevent it totally.

Chlamydia is also called a silent disease because the symptoms appear very late in some people. The affected people may not be aware that they have contacted chlamydia. An affected person sexually passes on a bacterium that causes this infection to his/her partner. The question is, how to enjoy relationships without contacting chlamydia?

Chlamydia- How Is It passed?

If you look inside your mouth and observe the skin inside, you will find that it looks different from your body skin. This skin inside the mouth is called mucous membrane. The same kind of membrane covers your genitals and anal cavity. When this mucous membrane comes in contact with any secretion of a chlamydia patient, the infection is passed on. If you prevent the mucous membrane from coming in contact with any secretions of an affected person, you can prevent contacting chlamydia.

Chlamydia- Action For Prevention

If you have a new partner and are not sure about his/her health, what would you do to prevent getting chlamydia if your partner is a carrier?

Don't allow any contact between the mucous membranes. Therefore avoid oral sex of any kind. Kissing will also spread chlamydia. Indulge only in sex protected by latex condoms. Regular screenings of STDs is always helpful. Consult your doctor about tests to screen you for chlamydia and other STDs.

Chlamydia: Prevention . Can Chlamydia be prevented?
yes. use her mouth instead
Reply:Don't have sex. Remember that you cannot trust anyone.
Reply:Yes, it can be prevented 100% by not having sex. In reality, using good preventative measures include always, ALWAYS use a condom, know your partner(as best as you can these days), and keep the # of partners to a minimum. You have to protect yourself, always,
Reply:Yes. The only way to prevent it 100% is to not have any kind of sexual contact. You can reduce the risk by using condoms if you do choose to have sex. Lastly, get tested regularly and treat the infection right away with antibiotics. Also have your partner treated to avoid reinfecting you.
Reply:abstinence is the best way to prevent chlamydia or sticking to one partner who also sticks to only you. condoms and no oral sex will help prevent it. but condoms could tear and any form of genital contact could infect another person.
Reply:yes by not having sex at all,or by not having unprotected sex can lessen your chances
Reply:yeah, use a condom! Get treated for it!!

The best out there in my opinion is the Chi line. It is rather expensive, but very well worth it! They have spray that you use before flat ironing, and hairspray and gels and serums, shampoo and cond. Everything you need.

Hospital Prevention HELP!!!?

So my little girls Dr. said she has croup I am trying to prevent her being hospitalized so I bought a humidifier but it doesnt mist is that ok? it blows cool air and the water in tank noticibally disappears but no mist is mist the key should I get another one??

Hospital Prevention HELP!!!?
Cool mist humidifier is the one to get.

Introduction

Croup is a respiratory infection that causes the airways leading to the lungs to become swollen and inflamed. It's characterized by a harsh cough that resembles a seal barking; a raspy sound when inhaling; and a fever. Most affected are children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Steps

1Step OneHold and comfort the child. Agitation and fear can worsen symptoms.

2Step TwoUse a cool mist humidifier or vaporizer. The mist will help relieve airway swelling and loosen secretions.

3Step ThreeTurn on the shower to steam up the room, and then take the child inside. Sit on the toilet seat or on a chair. Keep the child in the steamy room for 15 minutes. Read a book aloud to help keep him or her quiet.

4Step FourBundle the child up and take him or her outside into the cool night air (most croup occurs at night). Croup usually responds quickly to moist air.

5Step FiveMake your own croup tent. Place the vaporizer under the child's bed. Drape a blanket over a crib (use an umbrella if your child is old enough for a bed). This will trap the steam.

6Step SixAvoid leaving your child alone under the croup tent. You need to stay awake to monitor symptoms.

7Step SevenEncourage the child to drink liquids, especially clear ones. This helps to thin mucus.

8Step EightAvoid milk, as it makes secretions thicker.

9Step NineContinue to assess symptoms. If croup doesn't improve after trying several methods of self-care (steam, night air, croup tent) for at least 15 minutes each or seems to be worsening, you may need to go to the emergency room.

Tips %26amp; Warnings

Most cases of croup respond to self-care, and rarely is medical intervention necessary. Croup can also be caused by an allergy or can be an early sign of asthma.

Croup is often confused with croup epiglottitis, which is caused by a bacterial infection and can be life-threatening.

If your child is gasping for air, drooling and can't swallow, or has a bluish tinge to skin, seek emergency care immediately.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact a physician or other health care professional before engaging in any activity related to health and diet. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

Reply:seven seas-cod liver oil is the best.....but it doesn't taste so good. :(
Reply:You could try taking echinacea and garlic tablets, they boost your immune system and are pretty cheap over the counter at most chemist shops.

Reply:Eat lots of garlic as it boosts the immune system. Also, have plenty vitamin C.

Reply:You can't always avoid getting a cold or a virus but here are a few preventative measures.

1. Get the flu shot.

2. Carry hand sanitizer with you and use it after shaking hands with someone or touching a doorknob, etc.

3. If you take public transit, wear gloves so your skin won't contact the poles or hand-holds. Wash the gloves often in hot water.

4. Wash your hands frequently. You might need some form of moisturizing cream so the skin won't dry out.

5. If you can, keep your distance from someone whom you know is sick and don't touch anything they have touched.
Reply:You need to practice good hygiene, then. That's how you are getting the germs that cause the colds/cough.

You have to wash your hands many times a day. Hot water (as hot as you can stand) and soap. You should be able to sing "Happy Birthday"...twice. Then your hands are clean. Don't touch your nose, eyes or ears with your dirty hands. In fact-best just to keep your hands from your head always.
Reply:chicken soup...
Reply:keep ur self covered and don't walk bare footed
Reply:There was an article in a paper today giving you a top doctors 12 tips to combat flu and colds, they are:

1, cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing

2, immediately dispose of used tissues

3, adopt good hand washing practice

4, use pre packed dry alcohol gel hand wipes

5, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible

6, stay at home during the first few days of illness

7, avoid sharing cups, dishes and cutlery

8, avoid touching magazines and papers displayed in common areas

9, frequently disinfect commonly handled interior surfaces

10, the best way to prevent flu is to get a shot

11, ventilate workplaces

12, try to maintain distance of at least one metre from people displaying symtoms of sickness.
Reply:A chicken vindaloo every week, nan bread, onion bahjis and a nice bottle of lager!
Reply:A daily dose of vitamin c really helps to fight off diseases.

At the first sign of a cold (tickly nose, sneezing) take REDOXON

Available over the counter from any chemist or Boots.

I take this and 90% of the time the cold doesn't come out.

Redoxon is a massive dose of Vitamin C and zinc. Believe me it does work. It will also help you feel better if you're just feeling generally under the weather.

Also wash your hands on a regular basis as this is how most colds are passed on.

WW2 prevention?

The question I have is what are four or more actions that the U.S and its European Allies could have taken to prevent WW2? If anyone has any suggestions please post. Thank you!

WW2 prevention?
They could have enforced international law and made Japan get out of Manchuria. Once that Rubicon was crossed they had no moral authority to order Mussolini out of Ethiopia, Germany out of Poland, or do anything else that could have prevented the war's spread. In fact Hitler's election might not have happened if territorial aggrandizement had been discredited by facing up to Japan. The US wanted to join the League to push Japan out, but the Europeans wouldn't. They wouldn't help Haile Sellassie either, even though he warned they were next.
Reply:It could have been far less harsh on Germany. That can be pretty much what summed up WWII's roots. They were required to give up all it's foreign colonies, Much of it's European territories, pay a huge war debt and forbid it from ever havin an effective fighting force. All of them and more that Hitler used for and excuse to gain power in Germany.
Reply:Great Britian and the U.S could have listened to Winston Churchill regarding Hitler..... he knew Hitler was seeking more than what he actually asked for
Reply:Why would you possibly wanted to have prevented WW2....

Think of all the advances in technology that were made because of that war. And face it; if Hitler hadn't been there, Stalin (with the bigger army) would have eventually conquered the world.

Without world war 2 we wouldn't have nuclear warheads, which actually prevent wars. Or jets. Eh?

Weed prevention before replanting?

I cleaned up my backyard last week. Right now there isn't anything there, and I plan to plant vegetables and flowers in a month. During this time what can I do to prevent new weeds from growing out?

Weed prevention before replanting?
Sheets of black plastic will keep everything from growing. Also, the heat generated under the plastic will kill any residual seeds.
Reply:Lay down old newspapers or old magazines then pile on your dirt.
Reply:You want new weeds to grow out. This way you can spray them off before you do the initital vegetable and flower planting. If you can get rid of them before, the less weeding you'll have to do when the veggies are growing and the flowers are blooming. In fact, you should water the entire area a few times to make any weed seeds that are hidden, germinate, so they can be gotten rid of. Now is the time to get the weeds under control, not when you plant your garden... Hope this helps.

Billy Ray
Reply:Most herbicides only work within certain temperature perameters.

Best to check on the garden every few days and just hoe out the little annual weeds (chickweed is one), any perennials that have survived the first round of clean up should be hand removed, root and all.

Cover the intended planting area with black plastic or landscape fabric secured with rocks around the edges and middle. This will also surpress weed growth until planting time.

Good luck.
Reply:cover area with black plastic or weed barrier. the weed barrier is best because it lets water in the entire area.you can cut holes in it to plant and mulch on top of it.
Reply:i use (PREEN) till, rake in preen plant, cover space between rows not on top of where you planted with plastic any

D.I.Y will have all the stuff you need
Reply:Organically you can use corn glutten
Reply:I follow the advice of my fellow Landscape Pro (#1). The clean-up and tilling of the soil will activate new and residual weed seeds and grasses. Prior to planting your garden, ten days in advance, spray the area with a Round-Up type material. Do Not Use Any Instant Weed Killer! These generally do not kill the weed roots.

Find a local Nursery or Landscape supply store that deals with landscapers. While Preen has it's benefits it is the second generation to Dyclomec 5G. You'll plant your garden and spread the Dyclomec per directions. This will kill any existing new growth and prevent new growth for a season.

Any mulch you apply will have additional weed seeds in it. You will still have to use a round-up type spray for these weeds about once a month.
Reply:Let your weed seeds germinate... this lets you know where they are. Seeds in undisturbed (not tilled) soil will generally only germinate if less than two inches deep. Once they have all germinated, get a propane tank, or get the tank off your barbque. Then either purchase or rent a propane torch similar to this:

http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.asp...

Use this torch to kill everything that has germinated. Bear in mind if you till or otherwise disturb the soil, you will bring new, dormant seeds to the surface that will likely germinate.

This will not be practical if you have a large lawn, but if you have a small backyard, or just wish to do a garden plot, it should work nicely.

Hope this helps!

Boredom prevention?

My homeschooled youngster tests way above her grade level (she's in 1st, testing mostly at 5th grade). If/when we eventually send her to school, how can we keep her from being completely bored in a classroom because she's advanced academically?

Boredom prevention?
If she does eventually go to school, the best thing to do would be to find a school that recognizes her abilities and has a good program in place. Not just says it has a good program in place, but actually does have one. Depending on where you live, this may be available in the public school or you might have to look at a private school. If this is not an option, it would probably be best to keep her homeschooling as she will lose her lack of love of learning if she's going to be doing work she did before, and then while homeschooling, probably aim for early graduation. And really, what would be the point of having her in, say, a grade 5 class when she's way beyond? What sort of education would she be getting?

The idea of having her 'skip a few grades' would not work well as she would be VERY young and socially would be outcasted. A single grade would work okay, but if she's pretty much 4 grade levels ahead now, chances are she'll be 4 grade levels, or more, ahead by the time you think you might put her in school. To be in an educational setting that would meet her personal academic requirements could mean that she'd be 12 in a class of 16-year olds. It really wouldn't work.
Reply:Have her skip a few grades
Reply:have her tested and make sure she's put in an accelerated program, especially in math and sciences.
Reply:You'll have to challenge her academically outside of school, while letting socialization matters (and some horizon-broadening) be the focus of school for her. Plus, encourage her to develop her observation skills in school and to work in her mind on "why" questions.
Reply:giver her puzzles to solve and music to listen to

Just about everything has potential energy stored in it. The problem is releasing that energy to be able to do some work.

A tiny peanut contains stored chemical energy. When we eat them, the stored energy is converted by our bodies so we can do work. We can also use the energy in a peanut to heat a container of water.

Kevin, Liverpool, England.
Reply:You can have her tested for the GATE (Gifted And Talented Education). This will target her areas of strength and allow her to attend a school where they can challenge her knowledge. But be careful. Even though she is mentally advanced she is still young in years. Having her around children 5yrs. her senior may cause a whole new set of concerns. Good job on your work so far and best wishes for what ever you choose to do for her future.

Is prevention of vehicular pollution better than cure?

Prevention is always better than having to cure something later. For example: Smoking can cause bronchitis. Stop smoking to prevent it. Or continue to smoke and then pay through the nose for a cure.

Is prevention of vehicular pollution better than cure?
Your question is rhetorical. Why would you ask a question without giving it any thought? The obvious answer is that to prevent something harmful is better than curing the result. However, I will leave the "thinking" process to you.

Shrink Prevention Tips?

What are some ways to help prevent my clothes from shrinking when I wash them at home? I have trouble getting pants to not shrink, even when I buy the no-shrink pants. Does cold water help to prevent shrinkage of any clothes item? Hot water? Is there a certain length of time that I should leave things in the dryer? Should I hang things outside to dry? Should I wash everything by hand? Tell me everything you know.

Shrink Prevention Tips?
Wash in cold water and do not dry in dryer.
Reply:Follow the directions on the label on each individual piece of clothing. For the most part if you put things in hot water, if they are cotton they will shrink. Use cold water as much as possible and if you are unsure as to whether or not it will shrink; hang it to dry. Some clothes are dryclean only so look for that on the label too.
Reply:Cold water wash, cold water presoak, and permanent press drying will take longer, but minimize shrink.
Reply:I have never had a problem with pants shrinking. I always have problems with shirts....

My tricks are to wash in cold water then don't dry them in the dryer. Or if you must use the air dry or delicate setting. I always hang dry the stuff that I think will shrink. It works for me.
Reply:DONT WASH WOOL AT HOME....WASH IN WARM AND NOT HOT WATER...TAKE THE STUFF OUT OF THE DRYER WHEN DRY OR HAND WHILE STILL DAMP JUST LEAVE IT IN LONG ENOUGH TO TAKE OUT WRINKLES.... DONT DO IT BY HAND ITS A PAIN IN THE ......NO SHIRINK ITEMS SHOULD BE TAKEN BACK TO THE STORE IF THEY SHRINK AT ALL.
Reply:cold water, air dry or fluff air dry , use wool lite, try wrapping your tops in a towel and gently rolling it up then laying it on top of a table to air dry, when i hang them out they stretch length wise which i hate, good luck
Reply:Always wash in cold water. Also, put them in the dryer long enough to knock the wrinkles out and then hang them. If you are buying cotton, go up one size. That allows for all the shrinking that will ever take place.
Reply:In general, heat shrinks fabrics. Check the washing instructions on the label. Some things need to be hand washed or washed on gentle cycle. For items like cotton pants and tshirts, wash in cold water on a light (not delicate) cycle, hang to dry overnight, then place in dryer on lowest temperature to fluff them up. Works great for my clothes.
Reply:Use cold wash water. Dry on low. Take clothes that are prone to shrinking out of the dryer early and hang to finish drying.

Have everything that says "Professionally Dry Clean Only" dry cleaned.

What prevention are available now in the future for earthquakes?

Can you please asnwer it with information from the internet and not from your imaginations. Or can you send me a good website with this information.

What prevention are available now in the future for earthquakes?
By preventation, presumably you mean preventing large death tolls rather than actually stopping the earthquake itself. You can break it down to two concepts; predicting the presence of an earthquake to warn locals and minimising the effect of one.

Predicting where one might occur is easy; its when that is the difficult question. Many earthquakes occur cyclicly, e.g. as an oceanic plate subducts at a steady rate, the continental plate stresses until it releases the tension in an earthquake. All you have to do is look in recorded history to see how often they occur. Alternatively you can see how much stress is accumulating.

Minimising earthquakes can be very effective; an earthquake in urban california killed 60 whereas one *of the same magnitude* killed 40000 in Bam, Iran. The solution is in seismic isolators that buildings are built on top of; movement occurs here rather than being magnified as it travels up the building. A little local knowledge goes a long way; rather stupidly in Tehran, Iran, where major earthquakes occur every few hundred years, they have just built a new hospital and monument... right on top of a fault.
Reply:Earth quack zones can be predicted but earth quacks can not be prevented.Your question relates to preventive measures as part of a disaster management in earth quack prone areas, I hope.

Crisis prevention in Consititution?

We're creating our own state in my government class, and we're supposed to create some things that will prevent some crisises.(For example, we wrote if unemployment rate increases above 15% then new deals will be made by senate, then so forth to prevent further increasement in rate). I was wondering what our nation does to prevent some crisises(natural disasters, depression, etc)?

Crisis prevention in Consititution?
The constitution is not where you want to insert such detailed items.

Look at the United States Constitution. There are provisions there allowing the government to have an army. There are none there mandating what to look for in going to war. (Were we attacked? Was the attack direct or indirect? Do we even have to wait to be attacked?)

The procedure for declaring war is set out, but not the details the people who declare it have to use to decide when. Those choices are left to the the people at that time.

Similarly, what is the formula for responding to hurricane damage? Financial disasters? Etc.? That the government b e allowed to respond is important. The details ought to be left to the people who are running things at the time.

Odor prevention in this reaction?

Any Ideas to the compounds being formed that give it this distinct odor? (I'm assuming low molecular weight hydrocarbons)

Odor prevention in this reaction?
i would strongly suggest to better the vacuum so that you can reduce the temperature. otherwise, try argon instead of nitrogen, but at this temp, i doubt it will help.

your side reactions could be anything from decarboxylation to polymerisation (probably both)

Flea prevention!?

We have 2 indoor cats and we are getting a dog. If we use Frontline on both the dog and cats will we be safe from a flea infestation?

Flea prevention!?
yes, Just be certain you get the Frontline for dogs,( for the dog as I'm sure you know). Cats and dogs taken different "doses"
Reply:I find that Frontline is a very effective treatment for fleas. Just be sure to bathe the dog immediately when you get it home and apply the Frontline after the dog is dry. If you follow the regimen recommeded by Frontline, you will probably have no problem with fleas.
Reply:Its a really good start! If you live in an area that is prone to having fleas in the yard them perhaps it will be wise to look into the many ways you can put something down on your lawn too.

Just remember to get the right Frontline, they make it for cats and dogs.
Reply:That will definatly keep you from getting infested. Also before you bring the dog to the house get a bath done at the vet before you bring him home to make sure that he doesnt bring any home. ALso in addition to the frontline when you choose the heartworm prevention for the dog I reccommend using "Sentinal". That heartworm prevention has a flea protection in it that breaks the flea cycle. It is safe to use with the frontline. Do this and you will not have a problem with fleas.
Reply:I don't know about Frontline, but a good way to get rid of them is to put some vinegar in a dish and set it somewhere where the cats (or dog) wont get to it. the fleas will be attracted by the smell and will dive in. the vinegar should kill it.
Reply:I use Frontline Plus on my pets. When I moved into my new home in a wooded area, my house became infested and all my animals had fleas. I got some frontline plus and used it according to directions and have never had a problem since.
Reply:Safe from a flea infestation, yeah. You could still have a flea showing up now and then, friends bringing them over, picking them up in the yard etc. But you won't become infested with fleas.
Reply:Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.

You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Snake prevention?

i been have snake comes and go around my yard. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it. Products?

Snake prevention?
This is what a professional says about products to deter snakes: "The effectiveness of snake repellents is often a hotly contested topic, but in my experience and in the experience of knowledgeable biologists and herpetologists, there is really no effective snake repellent. It's probably better to leave snakes alone than to poison the environment by littering the ground with the various snake deterrents sold on the market." http://www.wildlife-removal.com/snake.ht...

Depending on where you live, killing snakes may be illegal, especially if you do not know what species it is. It could be protected under your state's laws.

If you have not already done so, clean up your yard. Remove brush piles, wood piles and rock piles that the snakes may hide in. Keep your grass cut. Don't leave trash around. Do not leave garbage around, or anything else that could attract mice and rats and other animals that the snakes may feed on. Do not have birdhouses or birdfeeders on your property.

If all this does not work, think about having a professional come and take care of the problem for you. The above website has a list of Nuisance Wildlife Control Professionals, nationwide, that you can check out.
Reply:you can buy "Snake Away" at your local Lowe's store

I also heard planting a couple of marigolds would help encourage snakes to find other places for habitat, good luck!
Reply:you can discourage them from coming to your place by getting rid of things that might provide sheleter to the snake such as any bushes, unused tyres, logs piled up etc, where the snake can hide.

you can try getting rid of rats and mice that might be attracting the snakes.

look around your yard for any burrows or holes in the ground and cover them up.

and dont forget to check your door and windows for any cracks or holes through which the snake can get inside the house.

and yes marigold plants and also basil plants are said to have some effect on snakes.

if your neighbour's garden is untended, you can talk to them about the snake and request them to tend to their yard so the snakes dont breed there.

if you do these things the snake ll probably stop coming because there is no place for it to hide from its predators and no food for it to eat.

good luck !
Reply:There is nothing guarantied to keep snakes away from your yard or house. The only sure thing to do is to kill them. I would prefer you don't. Learn to live with them, tolerate an occasional visit. If you have little children try to make sure the kids leave the snake alone. Snakes are not gonna bother people. Just think of it as one of Natures wonders come to visit.
Reply:While Jim is correct that there is no guaranteed way to get rid of a snake without killing it, godonlyknows is also correct that removing possible habitats for the snake will encourage it to move on. If the snake is not venomous, however, I'd recommend keeping it around as it is a great way to get rid of pest animals like mice and rats. If you would like to describe the snake to me, I can identify it for you.

Food prevention on cancers and diseases? can anyone help me with this question. Food that may prevent cancers?
Diet rich in fibre content (like vegetables, cereals like wheat, bran etc,) helps decrease the risk of colonic cancer, whereas foods like smoked fish and fatty foods %26amp; red meats are associated with increased risk of gastric and colonic cancers respectively. Also antioxidants like vitamin A and C play a vital role in preventing formation of cancers. Alcohol is also known to be a risk factor in certain Gastrointestinal malignancies.
Reply:Fruits and vegetables rich in anti-oxidants, like spinach.

Also, foods cooked in Olive oil, which has alot of Vitamin E are very good.

Try finding Advanced Nutrional Therapies in your local library. It's a great source.

Blister Prevention?

I am going roller blading tomorrow afternoon - I only go once a month with some friends and it's really fun! But I am ALWAYS in pain about half way through up till we leave because of nasty blisters I get. I'm not sure exactly how to prevent myself from getting them tomorrow??

Blister Prevention?
I used to be in the army and I would have the same problem on ruck marches. I used something called mole skin the the areas I would normally get a blister and it worked for me for many miles. You can find it near band aides at the store.
Reply:If you're getting blisters on your feet, it's probably because the skates don't fit quite right. Maybe you're wearing socks that are too thick. I had a similar problem with ice skates. Now I use a much thinner sock (skated barefoot for a while, but that gets nasty) and a smaller skate. Either way, as stated above Moleskin works awesome. I've never used the bodyglid lotion so I don't know about that. Moleskin will be either by the band aids or with the shoe insoles. Use moleskin as opposed to molefoam which is thicker but less comfortable. Before applying the moleskin, try to make sure the area is as clean and dry as possible so it adheres better.

Have fun!!!
Reply:I love rollerblading as well, it is a lot of fun! To prevent blisters you should make sure that you are wearing a right size of blades it is very important and also wear some cotton socks, not too thick and also try the higher cut

What prevention & treatment modalities available for "Idiopathic Subacute Pseudo Intestinal Obstruction"

A forty five year old male patient suffering from frequent attacks of sub acute pseudo intestinal obstruction since about 20 years. The frequency and severity of the attack varies from time to time.

Clinical and laboratory investigations revealed a normal bowel and other health parameters. But during an attack the patient feels bloated abdomen with distension, which may lead to projectile vomiting and unable to take food orally. An erect x-ray film of abdomen shows typical multiple fluid levels indicating intestinal obstruction.

Naso gastric aspiration, IV fluids and sedation with an anti emetic will usually relives the problem in a day or two and the patient goes back normally and will be absolutely normal till the next attack happens.

The patient feels it a big nuisance for him and is looking for any preventive or treatment remedies available to tackle this problem from happening frequently.

Dr.S.Gopalakrishnan.MD,DPH

What prevention %26amp; treatment modalities available for "Idiopathic Subacute Pseudo Intestinal Obstruction"
Diseases that affect muscles and nerves, such as lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, or Parkinson's disease, can cause symptoms. When a disease causes the symptoms, the condition is called secondary intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Medications that affect muscles and nerves such as opiates and antidepressants might also cause secondary pseudo-obstruction.

Exhaustion prevention in nursing?

I am in the nursing field and I do agency work. I was called into a shift working at one of the hardest hospitals around. I know that It will be so hard on my body I will barely be able to move afterwards. Are there some ways to prevent complete exhaustion? Does anyone work in a similar profession and know some techniques to make it through the day? I want to hear them. THANKS!

Exhaustion prevention in nursing?
make sure you get a full eight hours sleep prior to your shift, fuel your body with a healthy diet, don't skip any meals, and half way thru your shift, change your shoes. Seriously, I always take two pair of nursing shoes with me, just changing half way thru the shift makes a huge difference in energy levels and comfort.

Avoidance/Prevention of Pain!!!?

Hi all,

I started having back pain, body pain %26amp; general weakness which only started when I began working in a factory. Can someone tell me what to do about this as I need to work %26amp; get money?

Thanks a lot.

Avoidance/Prevention of Pain!!!?
It depends what they are producing. Is it chemical or is there a risk of coming into contact with substances? Be careful to always follow guidelines to the letter, they are there to protect you and if you become ill because you have not done so, they will not be liable for compensation.

Factory work by nature is manual and repetitive. Be mindful to take the breaks and HAVE a break. Eat well and sensibly and for goodness sake sleep well. Slow down on the falling down water and don't attempt to carry on with your previous lifestyle if it were excessively active.

If however, all the above is not the case, and your pain continues. Go and see your Doctor and explain your symptoms to him. You are describing several genuine medical conditions (one in particular) and this would need checking out.
Reply:Sounds about right when your working thats why they call it work. your body will adapt and get stronger, muscles you haven`t used for a time get week and need building up again stick with it yuo will be fine.

How do you prevent them ?

Or Treat them once you've gotten them?

Treatment/ prevention for in grown hairs? Sources please.?
I believe that you may have a condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa.of re-occurring boils/ cysts/abscesses , that are often misdiagnosed as ingrown hairs, herpes, being unclean or over wieght and folliculitis. This is a newly diagnosed skin condition , but there is a lot of info out there.

Here is a link :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidradeniti...

or the HS_USA page is ..

http://www.hs-usa.org/hidradenitis_suppu...

If this sounds like it might be you, READ it, PRINT it out, and TAKE it to your DOC.

Its better to try to start treatment soon, it can spread over the body if left untreated. These boils can become quite large and painful. Sometimes even lasting for weeks or months , do not attempt to POP them they can then tunnel under your skin and spread all over the body. Most common areas are armpits, groin, binkni line, inner legs, and intimate places and basically anywhere that sweats and rub against clothing. Stress is a big inducer.

There is a support group at MSN

http://groups.msn.com/HidradenitisSuppor...

This is also a link to a PDF of a study in Germany about HS and if it is genetic... I thought it was intresting :

http://www.hs-foundation.org/pdf/2000_Cl...

and a yahoo one, and I am open for questions!

I have had this for 8 years, I was misdiagnosed for a LONG time, It was very embarrassing, painful and scary. I am just trying to help out so you don’t have to wait as long as I did.

Currently I have 5 , 2 next to each other on my right inner groin. 2 in my upper HAIR area, and 1 med sized on my butt on the panty line, and they do come every week or so. I find that certian foods, not having a regular showering regimen, wearing clothing that irratiates the area.. and STRESS usually are a precusor to getting one.

I also prefer to use NEXCARE bandages.. there are 2 kinds I like for comfort and stay put reasons..

the first is like a clear bandaid.... soft on the edges with a small area of bandage... helps with those buggers when they are on bikni line.. usually stay for me.. or occasionally on my inner thigh for those I like the foamy sponge like ones that are beige in color.. I think they are 3M.

1. Put a Warm washcloth over the ingrown hair. Manually remove the ingrown hairs. (warm washcloth brings hair to surface)

2. Shaving in a different direction

3. Allowing the hair to grow in order to cause the hair to come out straighter

4. Using special razors that leave the hair longer

5. Exfoliating with facial scrubs, sponges, towels, or creams containing acids

6. Treatment with Ibuprofen or other NSAIDs promotes resolution of stubborn cases

Pregnancy prevention...?

Does anyone know of a natural

(no pills, no patches, or condoms)

way to prevent pregnancy...

Pregnancy prevention...?
i dont wanna be mean but....abstain!!! there are no "Natural" ways to not get pregnant. pregnancy itself is a natural process which is for two people who are ready to have childeren. but since we all are human and the majority of us have premarital sex and are not ready for childeren, you can try the pull out method. i still dont even suggest that 100%. your bf may not be able to control himself or you may get caught up in the moment and basically accidents happen and yes you can still get pregnant. but to answere your question, there are no "natural" ways other than abstinence to not get pregnant.
Reply:abstinence
Reply:Yes. Fertility awareness... ie. using your body's own signals of fertility to know when you are fertile and therefore when you can conceive. Don't confuse this with the "rhythm" or "calendar" methods, as it doesn't use counting, but actual signs from your own body like temperature and cervical discharge. Also, don't let anyone tell you that this doesn't work, because there have been numerous studies showing that it can be just as effective as most forms of birth control when done correctly. And, it is even endorsed by the Chinese government, who won't let the women have any more than 2 children, because even poor women can use it. The only downside is that you have to be disciplined and really take it seriously. It doesn't work as well if you aren't careful about it.

You can learn more here: http://www.fertaware.com/

And you can email me if you want to know more, too. I am living proof that it works. :)
Reply:Yeah.....abstinence.
Reply:take it in the but.
Reply:Abstinence is the only 100% way of not getting pregnant. The "fertility awareness" is NOT. You can get pregnant anytime during the month, you just have a greater chance during your fertile week. I would not go by that method. Especially if you're not ready to have children. I would obtain from not having sex at all if you're not ready.
Reply:Abstinence is the only way to guarantee you will not get pregnant without the use of a contraceptive. There are a lot of theories about the 'rhythm' method, but to be honest if you're looking for a 100% way to not become pregnant without using protection, the only way is to avoid intercourse. Assuming that you're a woman, some might argue that you could engage in activity with a man who has had a vasectomy, or you, yourself, could have your tubes tied; however, there have been known cases where these methods prove unreliable for pregnancy prevention.

If you're looking for contraceptive methods that are known to be effective, I'm providing you with a source that may help. I suppose your solution is going to depend on what you consider to be 'natural'.

Good luck to you.

What prevention do i need to avoid my gum problems?

awch my gum is aching..what do i need to do

What prevention do i need to avoid my gum problems?
to late for prevention, try mouthwash and see a dentist and clean your teeth 2 times ever day
Reply:Go see a dentist. Your pain may be due to a a problem with a nearby tooth. If you want to keep your gums healthy brush regularly, at least twice a day, with toothpaste making sure you thoroughly brush where the gums meet your teeth and not just the teeth themselves

Flu Prevention - Soap and Water or Hand Sanitizer?

Out of curiousity, I'm wondering what is most productive in preventing the spread of the flu...washing your hands with soap/water, or using the hand sanitizer that "kills 99.99% of germs". I know using them both throughout the day would probably be the best, but before cooking for example, would it be better to use the hand sanitizer and kill the germs, or does soap/water work just as well?

Flu Prevention - Soap and Water or Hand Sanitizer?
soap and water work better. but remember its not how many times you wash your hands, its when you wash your hands. make sure you wash after using the bathroom, right before you eat. never touch your eyes, mouth, ears, nose...hope that helps
Reply:Both. Use them both A LOT. But soap and water actually works better, because sanitizers lie. Yeah, they kill germs, but they're made so much of water they can't possible kill as many as they say.
Reply:If you're fastidious in washing, soap and water works just as well as alcohol-based sanitizers and others. It's just that most people aren't all that concientious about hand-washing.
Reply:Any time you come in contact with something someone else has touched you are at risk. You should carry hand sanitizer when you are at work or some place you can't go wash your hands. antibacterial hand soap.and hand sanitizer will both do the job. When you are cooking you can use latex gloves. Make sure you wash high traffic areas in the home like doorknobs and the keyboard of the computer. You can use the Lysol spray to disinfect objects you can't wash. When in public use the hand sanitizer after using doorknobs and stuff. Hope this helps.
Reply:The best form of Flu protection is an internal disinfectant called; "The New Silver Solution." This stuff kills bad bacteria but leaves the good bacteria intact, so it enhances your own immune system.

It is a 'New Technology' - currently being stockpiled by the US Military against bio-terrorism, that kills all sorts of pathogenic bacteria in 4 different ways, while remaining completely non-toxic to humans and animals.

I have personally given this solution to many people who have had Flu and Colds. In every case, symptoms were resolved within 36-48 hours and the person felt well again.

It is patented and tested by the leading laboratories in each of the pathogenic fields it addresses. Visit the site and look under 'Silver Solution Info' - There's also a link to the patent and an audio and video presentation on the site.

Reply:Both are great. Antimicrobial soap and water handwash after bathroom breaks, before cooking, and when hands are visibly dirty, sanitizer as needed.

Benjamin, the Infection Control Nurse
Reply:Scrubbing for at least 20 seconds with soap and water is preferable to hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers can be used when soap and water is not available and the hands are not visibly dirty.

When guests come, couch'll be clean.

Crabgrass prevention without fertilizer?

I would like to apply something to prevent crabgrass without fertilizing my lawn. There is a small area I need to reseed. Any recommendations for that patch, too?

Crabgrass prevention without fertilizer?
Yes. It's called HALTS.

Made by Scotts. You can get it with and without fertilizer.

If it says "Turfbuilder" on the bag, it's got the fert. If not, you're just getting the preemergent.

If you're reseeding, you can use Scott's Starter Fertilizer with Crabgrass preventer. It has a different active ingredient than HALTS and will only last about a month. If need be, you can put that down twice, about 4 weeks between apps. Then, after the new grass is in and has been cut a few times, you can put down the HALTS (w/out fertilizer) to give you crabgrass protection through the rest of the growing season.
Reply:Getting rid of crabgrass, sure, get on your hands and knees and pull it out. It can take a few hours, but it WILL produce better results. As for patching and area, use steer manure, mixed with some native soil, apply it about 1" to 2" thick, hand apply the seed, apply a thin layer of the soil mixture, water and wait, repeat. After it has appeard, fill in the bare spots with more seed. After 8 to 10 weeks, or when most of it is about 3" long, give it its first cut, trimming it back to about 2".

Can prevention of methylation in DNA delay senescence in plants?

Removal of methylation marks would lead to widespread misregulation of gene expression. Plants vary in how they undergo senescence. Some live for millennia, like bristlecone pines, while others live until flowering. In the later case, removal of flowers before they bloom can delay senescence but not block it.

Can prevention of methylation in DNA delay senescence in plants?
Not without anapylathic bitropisation.

HPV prevention?

I work in a pregnancy resource center and have a new client with HPV. Is there a cleaner that will kill this virus on counter tops and such. We noticed she did not wash her hands after going to the bathroom and touched everything..her boyfriend did the same thing....

HPV prevention?
HPV does shed its viral particles and there is a slim chance that while this young woman or her partner went to the potty he/she touched there genital area and the virus shed to her hands which shed to your counter.

You or one of your office personal would have needed to touch the counter...have the virus transmit to your hands and you then went to the bathroom and touched your genital areas and this genital area had some sort of micro-abrasion that allowed the virus to enter your genital area...

Possible...maybe...???

Genital HPV types are transmitted primarily through sex and hand to genital foreplay. While formit transfer cannot be ruled out it is pretty rare.

Clean your counters with a good counter cleaner...
Reply:I am in the medical field and unfortunately she did not wash her hands, but as well.....you can only catch this by flesh to flesh infected contact in the unspeakable region of your body. You cannot catch this from any other.
Reply:There's no cure for HPV infection. In most cases, your immune system rids your body of the virus, and warts often go away without treatment.

A number of treatments — applied at home or performed by a doctor — are available to remove warts. These treatments appear to reduce the concentration of HPV, but they don't eliminate the virus. For example, even though you may have genital warts removed, you can still transmit HPV to a sexual partner.

Genital warts

Treatments for genital warts include:

Imiquimod (Aldara), a prescription medication applied as a cream that may enhance your immune system's ability to fight HPV

Podofilox (Condylox), also applied as a cream, which may destroy the genital wart tissue

Trichloroacetic acid, a chemical treatment that burns off genital warts

Freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy)

Electrocautery, which uses an electrical current to burn off warts

Surgical removal

Laser surgery

Treatments for high-grade pre-malignant lesions

Your doctor will most likely not treat low-grade pre-malignant lesions, because they're likely to go away on their own and not develop into cancer. However, you'll need to return for follow-up Pap tests to make sure the problem has resolved.

Your doctor will most likely recommend removal of high-grade pre-malignant lesions, because they may develop into cancerous tumors. Treatments may include:

Cyrotherapy

Electrocautery

Surgical removal

Laser surgery

Treatments for other warts

Treatments for common plantar and flat warts include:

Salicylic acid, which removes layers of a wart a little bit at a time

Imiquimod (Aldara)

Cyrotherapy

Surgical removal

Laser surgery

Obesity Prevention?

There has been alot of studies lately about childhood obesity. I have a family with a history of being overweight. I am 17 weeks pregnant, and I was wondering if there was some way now that I could prevent this, or at least help a little bit. thanks...

Obesity Prevention?
Eat a well-balanced diet. Your baby will take cues from what you eat while pregnant. Make sure you're taking your vitamins too. You are encouraged to exercise, so check with your OB about starting up a routine, or continuing the one you're on. It will change as you grow. Make sure you are walking at least 20 minutes every day. Besides helping with your physical fitness and your heart, it will help you through your labor- possibly shortening the amount of time and making the pushes more effective.

Once your baby is old enough to introduce solids, make sure they are getting a variety of fruits and veges. Also, "real" bananas mashed at home are much more nutritious than jarred bananas, and cost so much less. Gerber and other baby food companies use starchy fillers in the jarred food to save money and expand the amount of product, so there aren't as many calories in them. If you have the time, you can blend up bananas, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans- almost anything that comes in jarred foods- and refridgerate or freeze them in small tupperware containers.

Mostly, children learn from their parent's examples. If you're active and eat healthy, and you encourage your child to do the same, it will become part of their lifestyle. Good luck!!
Reply:watch what you eat and exercise thru your pregnancy
Reply:Eat less. exercise more. It's that easy.
Reply:not while your pregnant. you need to worry after the baby is born and begins on solids. you can start her off right with balanced meals, get her eating her veggies and stay away from junk. if you start that off around 9 months and keep it up you are teaching he good eating habits
Reply:Stop eating at McDonalds every night. Instead of watching American Idol, go for a walk for those 2 hours. And make you child go with.
Reply:Stop stuffing the hole under your nose with food
Reply:Be careful of what you crave and start out early in your childs life on eatting heathy.
Reply:Well, I'd advise some kids not to go out to eat like at McDonald's or Burger Kind as much, maybe even once every 2 months.....lol.........but it's true. Kids have so many electronics now, and all they do is eat junk food and do this. Make yoyr kids go outside and excersize, sign them up for a sport, make them eat healthy, hide junk food, etc.
Reply:Stop ordering 27 Big Macs at McDonald's. Remember, just because you order a Diet Coke, doesn't mean you're eating smart!
Reply:Do not keep the food bowl full at all times. Allow a space between meals for exercise.
Reply:Change your own diet and exercise habits. If live a healthy life style it is likely that your child will too. Dont keep junk food in the house. If it is not around then your child cannot eat it. Introduce fruits and veggies early. Make sure to limit the amount of time the child is allowed to watch tv/play video games/play on the computer and that the child is up and active.
Reply:Not now. babies need all the nourishment they can get to help develop healthy brains and bodies, of course there are limits, but a strict diet for a pregnant woman or newborn child would not be beneficial. Talk to your ob/gyn about how many calories/fat you should be consuming during your pregnancy. The pediatrician will let you know how much breast milk or formula is healthy for your baby.
Reply:When your child starts eating food (after all the baby food) Feed him healthy foods, like for dinner marinated baked chicken and green beans. With salad and for dessert fresh fruit. Instead of what some of parents do, with their children having mac and cheese for dinner and nothing healthy, and a ice cream for dessert. This kind of eating only promote obesity. Feed him or her good foods and make sure they get plenty of active play. Running sports, not on the floor playing with Lego's.
Reply:all you can do is even tho your going to eat ALOT during your pregnancy stick to the healthly foods, instead of eating a chocolate bar eat a bit of fruit, go for daily walks, just keep healthy all you can do, that way you'll have a healthy baby, healthy pregnancy and you'll loose the baby weight fast after you give birth
