Zithromax/yeast infection prevention?

Every time I take antibiotics I end up getting a yeast infection. I just found out I have pneumonia and I'm on Zithromax for it, along with a narcotic cough medicine (Cheratussin), a steroid (Methylprednisolone), and an albuterol inhaler.





I forgot to ask my doctor for a Diflucan prescription at the time of my appointment so I was wondering what I can do to prevent getting a yeast infection from the Zithromax (5 day treatment, today was the first day)

Reply:There isn't much you can do. The yeast is caused by the antibiotic killing the good bacteria down there.

to prevent it i eat a yogurt everyday of taking the medication


or take acidopolis pills!

Reply:this may sound wierd but i do this and it works. Douche with a 1 cup of water and 1/4 cup or 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide at the first sign of a yeast infection. two days in a row and it will go away quick. Hydrogen peroxide has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties and is safe to use in the mouth as well. Also i recommend drinking PURE, unsweetened cranberry juice. I get mine from Whole Foods.





another thing i do is soak a tampon in plain yogurt that contains active cultures (Dannon is good), and insert it in vagina two nights in a row. This works really well for me too. I am so done with Monistat, diflucan and all those other "effective" antifungals.

Reply:This may sound crazy but if you eat yogurt while on the Zithromax during the entire 5 days that your taking it... it will prevent you from getting the yeast infection
